Wow did not take 2 years to really take shape. It was an outstanding product right from the get go.

WoW Had So many Bugs and the servers went down 3times a week for 6hours or longer. When WoW came Out the Pop Was Around 300k-500k Now thats pretty good for a Mmorpg of its 1st year.WoW has now Over Mill Players. but the down Side to WoW is That the game is losing Players each day. and most of them are not returning.

Wow did not had more bugs than an average MMORPG launch. In fact, taken into consideration the amount of content, WoW was one of the most polished MMORPG's around. Wow has not over a million players? That's an understatement, WoW has almost 11 million active subscribers.

the game is losing players each day? Really? Wow, who would have thought? Ofcourse people stop playing each day, it works like this with every mmorpg. But here is the thing: The subscriber base is not dropping one bit, it just keeps increasing.

Just check out the press releases http://www.blizzard.com/us/press/

World of Warcraft's playerbase is INCREASING, not decreasing. You do not know if players are returning or not since you have absolutely no info on that.

AoC Has gotta over 1`Mill Players asking for beta keys And The 1st few day's Funcom Release the date for open beta it was sold out in  few Days(50,000 Players)

Aside from the fact beta signups mean jack, WoW got those numbers in its sleep.

.Now where i Live The Game Is sold out even to pre-order from stores i had to go online to get the game.I would say that in the 1st year there is going to be over 400k-700k players by the end of this year. Only becuase the game is High End Game (New Pc) i think that would be the down fall to AOC . But What People are saying and beta and even myself have said funcom on release it's going to fix the Lag and crash on the load screens. So Upgrade or even A new Pc Should wait until release.

You have no reliable info whatsoever to base this on, pointpless estimate.

I Have a 3year old Vista Pc. it runs Ok with low settings, few lag spikes and 3crash .But I Will be buying a new Comp very Soon anyways for other games in the near time.

But All we need to do is wait. I played the Beta and it was great. if the game sucks at release (I give a Game 6months to fix most of the bugs) then i will be the 1st One To say this game is Going To flop.

But please Players Don't take my word or others. please play for yourself and see if you like it.There is going to be Buggs. But Dont forget WoW Had Alot Of bugs And i mean Alot of Bugs

Oh Don't forget The Great Game War IS coming Out Most people Are going to be switching over to that if there comps can't play Aoc Or if they get sick of WoW.

See You Soon.

Looking forward to:
The Agency, DC Universe, Aion

To further answer your question why Conan will fail as the next big thing in MMO land...and it will be a niche markets at 200 K subs after two/three months.

MMORPG's are there to motivate and reward people with their alter ego's, their avatars.

Getting your head chopped off is not exactly good game design (and motviation).

Already in open Beta most people complained the PvP ganking and childish bashing of their characters at the respawn points.

If people aren't motivated from the very beginning they play with their avatars, the game is already over before it begins.

Of course the technical problems (due to the use of insane graphics for an MMORPG) will decide the final faith also , but the core problem with Conan is that MMORPG's don't work that way. People just don't want their heads being chopped of when they want to enter a "dream" world.

People want to live in a dream world of medieval fantasy, That's why these graphics also won't work.

Where is the dream in Conan? where is the gameplay?

Good point.

Microsoft just announced its 10 millionth Xbox 360 sold in the USA.

They've sold 19 million Xbox 360s worldwide. You know, that's a decent market to tap into.

Most thought Wow would stop growing when it reached the "top" of the market subscription base.

In 2004 that was 500K. In 2007 it was thought 8 million was the maximum.

Last count is now at 10.7 million. And I say these subscription numbers aren't even the beginning...

Why? To come are:

Spanish servers for the Americas, Russian servers for continental Europe and China, well China just discovered TBC.

Wow and Wow TBC sold only in 2007 and only in the good old USA 3.5 millon copies. That was almost 6 times more than the second PC game on the market (Sims).

Wrath of the Lich King will eat both Conan and Warhammer sandwiches "for breakfast" and this in the US alone.

is it that good? yes it is THAT good.

Because in videogames there is only ONE factor that counts at the end : and that's gameplay.

Not nude pixeled chicks, not gore, not the number of pixels or shades, but simple "gameplay".

Wow/TBC is the ONLY MMORPG on the market where the player decides HOW he plays the end-game AND still gets rewarded.

Is that casual? No, it is just good game design that adepts itself to the styles and different interests of the players. Be it PvP, Pve, Dungeons, raids, complete solo play, arena, crafting.

Whether you have 20 minutes to spare or 20 hours a day. Wow is always there to reward you

ALL players - no matter what section they play - get epics and can compete with one another.

Wow rewards its players, a LOT of other MMO's punish the players.

In real Life a LOT of people work like hell and NEVER receive rewards.

That's the sceret of Wow. That secret was already there in 2005 and was only perfected in TBC.

wow i couldnt have put it better myself, sums up my views on it, very good post.

Legen.... wait for it.... dary!

Kind of off-topic but i just had to laugh at the comment of WoW being called a Sandbox MMO.  Maybe I am wrong but when i think sandbox i think a dynamic world, where you can actually change the environment and have an impact on whats going around you.

Yep.

But sandbox is also the playground for little children.

And as WoW can be played by kids ...

Sorry, but WOW is the exact opposite of a "sandbox" MMO.  In fact, WOW is nearly a perfect fit for the "theme park" end of the spectrum.  Static world, static quests, class/level based, linear game play, entirely focused on progression through combat...all features of theme park style MMOs.

Lol, cripes Jestor; I guess railing on Smed got boring.

Will AoC knock-off WoW from the Hill? Who knows and who cares. Instead of investing so much into WoW's demise, players should be happy with the game they're playing and don't set that expectation.

Conversely, will you consider AoC a failure if doesn't knock-off WoW? I hope not.

I'm really looking forward to AoC, but I'm not going to hinge it's success on it's population.
