I would think the lower donations would not be of much help at all.

Hmm... ok... just to make it clear... your "$" means US Dollars...?

And you are not the heir of some multimillionaire old guy, right?

I would only donate for a game I'm at least co-designing.

Think for yourselves and let others enjoy the privilege to do so as well.

lol Seriously, I sometimes eat at good restaurants with the meals costing 300$, I rarely leave a 60 % tip.

And those outings are extremely rare. If you are tipping in USD, then please understand how we poor folk have to budget our monies.

Then you would have to donate pretty much! As I said previously: for your $10 you don't get an MMO. Quit dreaming!

Also, altought doenst exactaly fit the OP since was stated was a "serious company", i'll show a small example of what normally 'donations' are. They may look very dark and 'scam' like, but there's more stuff like this then what you might imagine.

There is a certain site on the net, wich i wont say for... obvious reasons, that has huge amount of visits by day. I've been working with net publicity/ads for some time, i can say that that particular site is making huge money out of regular 'fan' visits only, due to the pusblicity/ads they have on hte site. Now... the thing is, they have a "Donate" method in the site, to 'help keep the site up'.

Anyone that doenst know how publicity/ads, server, webpage maintnance, so on, blabla, works, might think they do need money to keep the page up. But the sad truth is: they dont. If the site was mine, i could retire, live out of profit it gives by month, stay in the beach all day.

Yet, they ask for donations, and people keep the belief they are a "serious company"

Again, this might not interest to the OP

Just because a site asks for donations does not make it any less serious.  Just because there is a money issue does not mean that they are not serious about designing a good game, it just means that they have less of a fortune than other games.

Yes, lol I am american...my family is wealthy but I earned what I have for myself without their help tyvm. I worked very hard for what I have and am just now at the point that I do not have to work as hard as I used to. ( that way I have time to come on here and rant about mmorpgs) hahaha! Anyhow this thread is not about my personal life .. it is about whether or not people would want to donate to games to get them produced.  I do not think that the type of donations they speak of (under $100 ) would benefit the company all that much, I think they would be better off creating a good plan, presentaion and sales pitch (that does not include a refund in the sales line) ... That just makes you think it was set up for failure. If the people producing the game do not appear they are confident that that will never become an issue NO investor will be confident in their abilities either.  They would have to make the investors believe that it is something truely worth investing in and that they would be crazy not to take them up on this rare opportunity.  Investors want "proof" that the game will be a success. You would need stats on everything and anything in order to show that there is a demand for this product. Most of all you have to truely believe in your product in order to sell it. There is no such thing as failure .. it is succeed at all costs.

True, little donations like 100 dollars would not help, alone that is.  But if 100 people decide to donate 100 dollars, that equals one of your donations right there

That's what I meant... If you prefer, let me put it this way for you to understand better:
I would never donate for a game. Although, I might use my own money to start an MMO project someday, before the investors kick in.

A serious company doesn't need money from its players.  They already have the investors and capital built up before development begins.  If they don't they are in fact not serious at all.  If you want to invest in the company, thats different.  DONATING?  Cmon.

I think Darkfall needs some more money don't they?
