What do you guys think about the aspect of donating to a game company? Say it is a game you look forward to, but they need donations, would you be willing to donate? P.S. We are talking about serious companies here, who would be willing to refund if things didn't work

Would this be a legitimate company or a bunch of guys in their basements making emulators of games already out asking for donations yet again? |

Originally posted by BaronJuJu A serious company, attempting to make a game that is different from the rest. Should probably add that on the original post.... |

I voted No, but to be honest, when Trials of Ascention closed developement... I think I would have donated something. Of course regretting it afterwards when the game wouldn't have been released anyway |

If it is a serious company then sure, if you want to go right ahead. Myself, I would be a bit skeptical as to why they were asking for handouts rather than trying to secure funding from an investor. |

actually I would rather invest than donate and have some say so in the game itself. There would be alot of factors that would determine whether or not someone would want to put money into a game. First off do you believe it is a good product? Do you feel confident in the people making the game that they will be able to produce the quality you will expect for your money spent? How close their views of the final product are to yours? I would also want to be informed of the process as it comes along. I guess I would want partnership rather than a donation.. at least that way I would have some say on how my money is spent. |

Originally posted by BaronJuJu I see what you mean. If it were to be a serious, new company (yet experienced) , it would still be a challenge to find investors. It can be hard to find investors when there is not a playable version of the game yet; I would think. |

Originally posted by deviliscious Hmm, interesting idea. Although investing would cost a lot more. You also have to think about the other games though. Unfortunately, when companies try to create a new kind of game, some investors back off, not wantign to take the risk. |

Originally posted by mike470 Yes, because with the unknown there is always a higher risk, and it takes more money to produce new ideas rather than tried and true ones. The type of person the investor is applies here as well, if it is someone that is somewhat ignortant when it comes to games anything out of the norm may scare them off easily. If they know the field that they are investing in well, they may also have their own opinions about what is needed in the industry and may not see the demand for the new product that you are creating. If investors do not see the demand of the product they will not want to invest in it... still there are the risk takers that have the ability to decide for themselves what they consider to be a good investment regardless of what other investors may think. |

If they use it on whatever, means if the game goes BANG, there is nothing left except maybe 2-3 computers, that is problably from the developers in the first place. |
