I personally don't follow them at all. I've been interested in it however, but have not put in the time for it. I have been told that the guys behind the table top game change their rule set every 6 months. Whether there is any truth to that, I have absolutely no clue.. which is why I'm asking you guys. My concern is just that.. do you really think the Devs of an Online Based game would do such a thing? I mean we all know how that turned out for SWG =P But anyhow.. anyone that plays the table top version can fill me(us) in on if thats even true, and their opinion of if it can happen to Warhammer Online.

No, they dont change the rules every 6 months. I'd say they change them every 4 years or so, but they do that so they can sell new miniatures and books to their customers. Rules change consistently in MMOs, but thats different...

No they don't change the rules every 6 months. Maybe every six years.. 5th edition was released in 1996 6th edition was released in 2000 (?) 7th edition was released in 2006 |

A fast calculation: released 1983 (25 years ago) / 7 editions = 3.57 years. I wasnt far off |

They change the rules and figuines every few years. The figures part is what ticks me off is they come up with a rule change that makes it so you have to buy the new one(s) for tournaments. :-( I highly doubt they will do that to the MMO. They've given EA Mythic alot of breathing room as far as control is concerned. |

just hope they don't do what SOE did to SWG. they gave us a game and we all loved it then changed it to somthing new SWG-cu and then they give us this crap SWG-nge so it was 3 games in the first few years it was live so if WAR does not change all the skills, character classes and can fix bugs and not add more with every new patch i think War will be fun but they need to add the option for gore a Warhammer world with just flashing lights and no blood is not for me |

Well that does kinda suck for table top users. but I guess they have to make money some how.. and I suppose we as users of an MMO cant really do much about it if game play changes.. (aside from canceling subs) I mean I think thats one of the little lines of text you see when you log into a mmo "Your online experience may change while online" or something like that =P I just hope they give us 3 good years before they change stuff hehe.

I've seen 3 types to change to rules in WH. White dwarf supplement: Normally those fix some unbalance in the game and sometimes add new units and rules for them
Online Game-workshop : On web you might find info on special character they tend to release time to time
And finally new set of rules which are editions: Normally when they release new edition they do a total overall of the minatures, fix some major complain and improve the overall gaming feeling. Also you still can play previous edition or minature (for edition you normally ask you opponent if he feel ok to play 5th edition or etc) And if hes in the mood well your up for a game.
So I think MMO change (patch/update) look like the White Dwarf and Online release. But not a new Edition. New Edition might be more like a new expension where they add new skins for exemple. By the correlation between MMO and Minature is pretty hard on the mechanic side. my 2 cents |

If WAR is everywhere why aren''t I in beta yet? |
MMOs are always in a constant state of flux as balancing issues are worked out, new quest are added, or features that are in high demand are introduced. I doubt any of these changes would be drastic enough to considered a change in the rulesets. Stuff like that only happens when the developer becomes particularly desperate to turn their game around. (e.g. SWG) So don't worry the WAR that will be released in September (knock on wood) will pretty much be the one that you are playing a year later (knock on wood again). |
