We had a very rocky start but on Friday they patched the game it was running very well in the tortage area's. It was exciting to play that for awhile and I had a lot of fun. The graphics and characters look very well done but in my opinion just don't hit that 3rd gen graphics just yet. THe animations and combat are also very well done and very responsive. Today I logged intot he game and played the level 20 pvp combat and it was cool at first but became very repetitive once you played through the 9 skills you chose to use on the hotbar, I am the kind of player who likes to have "ctrl+1, ect to use fast on my g15 keyboard but couldn't find a way to make a second hotbar pop up, that brings me back to the UI , it just doesn't feel good to use and everything is so big on it that if you mouse over something by accident the skill will slide off. I didn't see anyway to lock the skill on there either .... The biggest turn off for me, and you all will think i'm crazy , but it is the environment.. yes it looks stunning in still photos and even in game, but the big minus for me is the trees and the foliage, on totarge island the trees where tall and I didn't see the leaves a whole lot, but on the main land the trees look absolutely horrid. It for me is a complete eye sore and can't get past it cause the environment is what wraps me into a game and AoC just can't quite bring it together for me.
Funcom did a magnificent job on the server architecture and the coding of the game because it was completely lag free in the pvp area with 20 to 30 people on the screen, then again, I also upgraded to 4 gigs of ram and got a new 500gig HD as well, so not sure where all the reward is to lay. Fo alot of people this will be "the game" and I can see Funcom winning several awards this year, though mmo of the year will probably be a little tougher with 2 other long awaited games coming out later in 2008.
