In the past: UO, DAoC, SWG, WOW, EQ2, EVE, VG, LOTRO, TR, Mythos, AoC & WAR

Current: N/A :(

This is offtopic, but GTS is quite much faster than the GT. But why not go for a 9800GTX since it's nearly as cheap as the 8800GTS and a little faster.

The differences are minor, but the 8800 GTS is the better card. Will you notice a difference in performance between the two? Probably not. Will you notice a difference between the 8800 GT and the 8800 Ultra? yes

The cheapest 9800GTX is still almost 150 bucks more than the cheapest 8800 GTS (G92) with a marginal increase in speed, that's the only difference.

go with the 8800gts 512mb i have a link for you, also these new cards use pci x 2.0 so if your mother board doesn't have a pci-x 2.0 slot than you wont be able to use it to its fullest potentional. 2.0 transfers data at twice the speed than a regular pci-x card.

So if I bought a pci-x 2.0 card it still works on a regular pci-e slot?  How much of an upgrade would i see if i upgraded to a 2.0 slot?

I have a 8600GT but don't have a 2.0 PCI slot. I wanted to upgrade to a 8800GTS, should I just buy a new motherboard instead and get the 2.0 PCI slot? Also how much of a difference will it make if I use the 8800 on a normal PCI-E slot.

yes you can still use the card in a regular slot. im really not sure how big the difference is in terms of frames per second, im sure the answer is out there somewhere.
