I got so much
trouble on my mind
Refuse to lose.

masseffect.bioware.com/forums/viewtopic.html

And so again we gamers prove that we have the power to change things , if we unite - and show that we will not take , and not tolerate any sh*** that they serve us.

Bioware/EA were practically bombarded by united gamers criticism of their intrusive piracy protection for Mass Effect.

And now decided to remove it ... well almost.

Game will still be installable 3 time, and on 3 different PCs , but internet key check will be performed , only when downloading patches or updates.

Bit more reasonable....

So we can make change if we unite ....

LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD!!!

Thanks for bringing us this news. Its a bit, but a way bit more reasonable indeed!

Let it not be said customers can make no change!

"As you think, so shall you become"

I dont blame em for trying to take extreme measures. I can't remember the last time I payed for a PC game that wasn't an MMO.

Well, I lied, I have bought Unreal 3 but that's only because you can't play online with a pirated version, as are most games that you can play online. I'm not gonna waste money on a single player game that I might not even like.

So  if I play through the single player and want to start owning people online, i'll go out and buy the game.

I know its wrong, but its the time we live in and i dont have the money to buy every new game that comes out, only to turn them into coasters.

The only difference between a Troll and a Fanboi is which side of the fence they stand on.

In my eyes the "new plan" is just as bad as the "old plan".

StarDock is the only company I think actually listens to gamers and customers...

Well the change is nothing world shaking, maybe a bit friendlier now for people with strange internet availability, but the points that the game requires online activation and has a limit set for number of installs still remain. The discussion on the official boards is very interesting in both of the related topics and includes several very very good and constructive posts.

Unless the outcome is the removal of online activation and no limit to number of install though, the pirated version will still be the superior product.

Subscribtions: WOW, EVE, WAR, DDO, VG, AOC, COV, FFXI, GW, RFO
+plenty of F2P, betas, trials

On my radar: Earthrise, DF, Mortal Online, JG: Evolution

They can solve this and probably have measures for the ability to call in your activation. Wait..I think that was said by the Dev. And if you dont have a phone or internet....How do you afford the computer to play and the money to actually buy the game.

: What happens when I’ve reached the maximum # of computers for my game and I need more, say due to theft of computer, computer crashes, etc?

A: EA customer service is on hand to supply any additional authorizations that are warranted. This will be done on a case-by-case basis by contacting customer support.

So yea if you buy the game and dont have internet. Im sure they would be more than happy to activate by phone and/or email. Please actually read the stuff before you post nonsense.

I really do not like how that sounds.

What will they do ? Put you on some kind of trial , to determine if you are worthy of another install?

It is still BS , but at least it is bit better than it was. Shows that customer uproar can change even EA mind , and even in gaming (widely known as "you can serve them anything - and somebody will still buy it" buisness)

yeah i  find it easy to check my email for an activation code without internet...but its not required, ill give you that since they have a phone line.

So not only do you pay for the thing , you have to call them and beg permission to install it? then hope they like you enough to do what?

how will they generate a code and have it sent to your computer and verify its a real code and not from a random made password generator?

or will the "unlock it again for another computer code" generator be built into the disc, which pretty much defeats the entire protection thing by the time the 3rd copy is sold to the public.

So to play their game i have to call using my time (instead of playing), or allow them access to my computer, let them do some kinda unspecified change to my registry, scan my entire system to validate its the same computer hope they only scan my computer its on not the entire network ,and who knows what else not being mentioned (think blizzard installer or any music disc by sony).

this is just one less purchase , i mean if i am going to have to work to make the game playable after a month or two , i might as well do it on a cracked copy, that way i only have to hunt and kill the junk hidden in there once , not everytime I make a system change or swap my drives.

in the end ill have the game , they wont have my money, and i wont have to put up with the crap.
