Well, I am celebrating my 400th crash of Age of Van... err Conan and take the opportunity for some smartass last words. Kinda. (Dont get your hopes high.)

Playing the game AoC is *generally* very enjoying WERE there not the big problems mentioned in the first post. Like in VG, my reason to come here is not because I enjoy bitching so much, but because I see the potential, and bemoan the fail I forsee. It is BECAUSE it would deserve better I try to fight for insight and I point to the flaws!

Strangely, about 4 or 5 days ago AoC had improved in stability and speed, so I could run it in medium and only experience a crash every 90 min. in average with neglectible lag. Now reading all these posts about skyrocketing performance, I can only wonder if we live in the same universe?

In the Open Beta the performance has SEVERLY dropped. Now I am playing in LOW settings with WORSE performance than before in medium! The amount of mobs standing there you cant attack for unknown reasons has exponentially grown, quests that worked are suddenly bugged - like the winch in the harbor to get the ore. Once that quest worked, now the crane seems bugged. I dont see progress guys, I see REGRESS!

Its really not that I dont like AoC, really, I WANT to like it, but I cant. The lag in some areas (I just say Underworld!) has reached really an unplayable status! I was on the fence of ordering 5 days ago or so, but now it has contantly grown worse, and testing more clases I realized some are quite borked and imba. Seeing the final event a FFA PVP is just the kind of final nail on the coffin. It tells me what kind of world the devs want, and sorry I dont enjoy PKing at all. I had thought a fantasy world like this would be big enough to cater MANY kinds of playstyles and MANY interpretations, but APPARENTLY - see this thread for example - many have a very narrow interpretation of the Conan world. Sorry, I prefer my freedom. I prefer to DECIDE MYSELF how I want to play, and prefer a company who offers its players CHOICES, not nail them down to one choice of interpretation and then its take it or leave it. Thats not my way to deal with things, and it is unfortunate that AoC seems to try to attract a narrowminded kind of folks.

All this hardcore boasting teenage dream of "oh look how hardcore we are, we dont need carebears" is SO familiar, Vanguard crap all over. It was EXACTLY the same. Fanbois defending EVERYTHING, claping on each others shoulders how tuff guys they were and telling ppl to go back to WOW (which I DONT play anyway, for the record!) asf. Tragic. The world of Conan would offer SO many kind of people a place, but Funcom apparently decided to run it to a very narrow definition. A loss. Why so many only can think in extremes of black/white is beyond me.

Its the SAME pathetic pseudo-religious habits the vancrap fans had, to whom you either applauded everything BLINDLY or you were an evil hateboi. I am neither. But when Age of Onan (ending in the game all by yourself) is another niche game like Tabula Rasa and PotBS and VG - I wont feel satisfied saying "I told you so", because I rather hope they somehow still GET the turn. Based on what OB shows this is a clear NO-GO area for me atm, and I feel thats a lost opportunity - once again.

Bummer seems like you are pretty well screwed.....by your own admission WoW sucks, SWG sucks, TA sucks, LoTRO sucks, and now AoC sucks.  Maybe you should stick with pac man or something, because it looks like you are going to hate everything no matter what.

The dev's want to hide the lack of content post-20 by offering this pvp gankfest so NOBODY can level and discover there is nothing more to do.   It works for launch and maybe the first 3 days... but there is NOTHING more there to do beyond what you see now.  Sad really... and funny to me.

There are still post like this?

And DeadDingo, you said the game will fail on an epic scale, surely you won't buy it, what then are you still posting here for? Move on already!

Or maybe you think that a Funcom staff member will read it then and think "hmm DeadDingo said our game is crap and so we should not release it for anther few months, or even better lets can it!"

You could be right, they might be  trying to stop people from reaching higher levels.  I think they want to see how much actual ganking would go on in a FFA universe to help them decide what the final PVP model should be.

As for what type of world they want Elikal, they are offering two types of servers, one based on open PVP and one based on PVE only, except in borderlands (or whatever they're called). You may chose either, so I don't think that's a valid complaint.

People here seem to have forgotten, MMO's in the past generally only worked on a limited selection of hardware, and your results may vary.  Yes, 80% might have few issues, while 20% crash and burn.

I was playing Lineage 1 and EQ 1 fine when DAOC came out, then it was all crash and lag.  I checked their site and found out they supported 12 video cards, period. So, I had a choice, and I went out and bought one of those cards to play their game.

If most of the playersin AOC are getting by w/o an issue, it will be up to those crashing to resolve the issues with their rigs.  New drivers, cards or whatever might be required.

In my own case, my gaming laptop can't be upgraded (has an 8800 GTS card though) and is stuck using a Gateway driver from Jan 2007 atm.  I'll give the game a trial, but if it won't play I'm screwed unless I can badger Gateway into giving me a driver upgrade.  If thats the case, I'll have to live with it, and play something else, simple as that.  Or go buy a desktop box to play.

Seriously, how many more threads are you going to make here calling for the end of the world and the death of Age of Conan.   I think I speak for most of the people here when i say we heard you the first time. We get it.  You think the game is a massive debacle, now please move on so we don't have to waste our time reading the same doom threads by the same people every day.
