Well im in open beta right from the hour 1. And i must say that i have mixed feelings. At first i had real trouble with good fps timings. But after the first patch im running at max settings possible without lagging and my loading times are around 1-2 seconds. My PC is : Q6600 with 4 MB RAM and ATI 2900XT (ASUS STALKER) with latest drivers. Running Vista 64 Ultimate. What really troubles me is that i still crash a lot. Every 15 minutes or so. But sometimes im able to play for an hour or so without crashing. I do not experience any slowdowns or staggering most of the time. If it hangs, it is for a second or two and it has been days since there was any trouble with FPS. Do note im running max settings. And we are talking dx 9 here ,since dx 10 is not available. Sure you can pick it in settings, but it doesn't do anything. Since dx 10 is supposedly faster and better than 9 - we might get even better performance at release. On a general note, this has been a pleasant experience, aside the crashing part (But hey it is freaking beta). And i am sure by now everyone understands that this issue is being and will be taken care of since there is a lot at stake here. I have pre-ordered AoC many months ago. If you are serious mmorpg veteran like me i think you should just get it and see for yourself how it turns out instead of taking too seriously the beta problems that might not be there at launch. Unless you are somewhat of an oracle i suggest to just wait and see. And i doubt there will be any trials at launch. |

less than two weeks to go......
And people are testing a beta that's more like an Alpha. I can see a great PR campaign for this one.
"You payed to beta test Vanguard, now it's time for a new CHALLENGE, can you pay fore Alpha testing AoC?! OH YEAH lets rumble!!! It's hammertime and MC Hammer ain't the one singin' here!!" "IN STORES NEAR YOU, Do you have what it takes to master the alpha?! Buy now!"
But in all seriousness, i'll wait till there'll be trial version that seems rather stable, which if i pray enough to God every hour, might come in 3-4 months but if i were to be realistic and looked at how long VG took to become stable, i guess that's wishful thinking. |

Yes. you can't now if it's going to work on your computer before trying it... Kind of Russian roulette.
