read Funcom’s Age of Conan Product Director Jorgen Tharaldsen latest interview

 http://www.mpog.com/gamelist.cfm/game/191/feature/1927

"I have seen the same rumors that it’s old, but it’s not entirely true. We tried to include the best we had on a stable approach, but in our eagerness to please we wanted to get a few additional fixes out (hence we pushed the launch back a couple of hours)..."

i got to tell guys. am much as i was really hoping of buying this game, each day that pass FC is making me more and more unsure. I think now i will wait until the final release to make my final verdict. Too bad FC did such a mess in Beta. i was really hoping to buy this game by testing it in open beta.

Never hold discussions with the monkey when the organ grinder is in the room. -Winston Churchill

Yep, same client, 2 different patch builds.   OB is behind CB, just like CB is behind the Alpha(in house) client.

* I do not need to know how to make a better game than you. I just need to know how to cancel my subscription. -Antarious(a slight misquote but the sentiment remains)

I agree that they should've called anything but an OB but it's too late now.

The real problem with CONAN is much and much worse.

The answer can be found in the first paragraph of the interview!!!

They admit they used too Hi Res Graphics, so EVERYTHING is preloaded into zones.

What the hell: MMORPG with only preloaded data??? Guys this a a serious design bloop. Open world PvP with hundreds of players doing sieges... ??? You DO realise this can't be preloaded !

All (unexpected) player data will be needed to stream in while you are fighting... at ...

yea right. At 2 frames per second ?, because in open world you can only PREload the background graphs.

Meet the most stupid designer ever.

Saying the Conan launch will be like Vanguard is a serious insult to the design staff of Vanguard !

They do admit to the high graphic detail and it was part of the plan from the start.   As for the pre-loading in sieges, it's really no different than what was seen in the pvp weekend.

The much larger number of players in the sieges can be addressed server side by lowering view distance in the battlegrounds to start off and I'm willing to bet they may have other ideas(some in now/some for the hotfix's) to avoid the unplayable lag/slideshow frame rate factors.   Dedicated server nodes for the battlegrounds would be one way to go.

Sorry, but the PvP weekend were pure preloaded instances where EVERYTHING was preloaded in advance (even the players data).

Open world PvP means you can't possibly know where the players are coming from and who will be where at what time and which gear they will have.

Even on the PvP weekend you had massive framedrops (because of the real time combat system I guess - but that's yet another problem related to server issues).

Reread the interview: the words he uses makes me very weary (I do have Conan preordered but I lost all hope for it): "I feel pretty confident" "it would have been much worse" (sic) "we are constanly learning".

It gives me the creeps...

This guy is NOT confident at all ("I was just down the coding HQ and a laptop with low spec performed great there...")

I mean the spokesman for the press just before he gives an interview has to enter their coding HQ just to be sure ...

Pfeww. WTF.

Just want to point something out here:

I'm pretty sure that aside from taking the time out of development to talk to us in this interview, he's also got pretty hefty responsibities about the game that keeps him moving around the building and looking into the different departments. I can also tell you that he's sounded pretty confident when I've spoken with him recently.

I don't know if that helps you or not, but I just wanted to point it out.

Cheers,
