Out of intrest .I know i been burnt like that before.Even worse i did beta a game once and still pre ordered it on a leap of faith that some magic will happen in launch.

I for one will not pre order a mmorpg again unless i beta test it first.Or if i fail to get into beta then i will wait till launch and look at a number of reviews and comments before then ordering it post launch.

Forum Poll

would you pre order a mmorpg without beta testing it?

yes
no
yes,if a friend is in beta and says its good

Yes, because of the goodies inside. Usually, pre orders are free (you pay something, but you'll get it back when buying the original game), so I dont lose money. And if the game is funny, I want those pre order goodies! =)

No but then I wouldn't preorder a game I beta tested either. The first few weeks of most MMOs are a giant suckfest of overcrowding , crashes and bugs.

Not a retired MMORPG.com mod

Never preorder a game without testing/playing it first regardless of which company is behind it.

Partial list of preorder scams:

Mourning

The Chronicle

Gods and Heroes

Dark and Light (released incomplete)

Vanguard (released incomplete)

Roma Victor (released incomplete)

"Ideas are bulletproof"

No, I won't buy any game unless there is a trial and, yes that includes MMO's. I'm tired of being taken by these companies, paying for beta tests (ie when the game is released unfinished), and basically being lied to. I don't think any of us deserve to be lied to intentionally, but these companies do it all the time.

SWG - released incomplete and a mess

WoW - released imcomplete (endgame was missing and that was pivotal in a game that you reach cap within a few weeks. It took them MONTHS to get the game in order)

EQ2 - released incomplete and a mess (revamps and server consolidations in the first year)

DDO - released imcomplete and a mess

Fury - released ...a mess

Tabula Rasa - released incomplete

Hellgate - released incomplete and a mess

Pirates of the Burning Sea - released a mess (congratz to PotBS, the only game to beat Vanguard in the shortest amount of time to consolidate servers)

Ryzom - total mess

In fact, the list of MMO's that are released in a semi complete state is very small. I wonder why people pre-order any MMO's to be completely honest.

Well answer me this then....If nobody would buy a MMORPG at release n everyone decided to wait a few months for the game to get fixed up how would it? How would it get fixed up if there was nobody playing it on release? How would improvements be made if nobody played it? Why would companies then bother to even release a game as an MMORPG then if nobody would play it?

Well people need to look at the degree tbh.

Yes i would easily have pre ordered say WoW,EQ2,DAoC,LOTRO  and CoH because while they all had flaws which were sorted afterwards they had a degree of fun and playbility right from the word go.

But then you take some like Roma Victor and Dark and light  which were completely unplayable at launch .Now really that spells scam to me.

Even games like SWG and AO which were almost unplayable at launch to me spells scam because they were in a terrible mess to start with and should never have been sold as launch products.

I would never preorder a MMO.

90% of the current MMOs that are released are shitty and designed for the DEVs to make a few extra bucks.

IMO, if you preorder an MMO you minus well give a homeless alcoholic a blank check.

I already have.  I preordered the CE version of Warhammer.  I loved Dark Age of Camelot and am willing to give Mythic a chance.&n
