I was hoping someone could explain to me in sorta detail what the classes roles are and how they work in a group. I can kinda guess by reading abilities and what not but from my experience that's not always how it works.

I was thinking about getting this game and making a hunter because I've always loved ranger type jobs in most MMOs. And if possible could someone campare LOTRO hunter to say a ranger in ffxi, or ranger in Lineage2 that would help hugely as that is what im most familiar with.

Well thanks I was hoping it wasn't as simple as that but that seems to be how most games are. Support, tank or damage dealer. Do you know if they are going to release any more classes in the future or can you customize the classes well enough that it's not needed?

Theres more to the classes than that. I've only played a champion so far, but those are the general roles. The min is actually much different than like a priest in wow, more melee. There are 2 new classes coming with the expansion this fall. Rune-keeper and Warden, though none of so any info on that yet.

In this game instead of a skill tree to diversify your class like wow, you get traits for doing certain things (using an attack so many times, killing X of something, exploring, doing x number of quests in an area, etc.) these can be equipped changing how some of your attacks work. An example is that Minstrels get a trait to be able to wear medium armor instead of just light. Of course you have way more traits than actual slots so you have to pick and choose.

"Eye for an Eye"

2 new classes on the First Expansion, think that says a lot of when you come tiime for another expansion. The process of making a skills , animations and character armor for 2 new classes in a years time is pretty good.

With three good players of different classes you can really do well in most fights.

There is a bit more subtlety than that but you asked for a break down. With a break down you are going to get the most obvious answer.

However it is possible to mix and match a bit and still be successful.
