Its not my favorite game ever. And alot of people play it. Best guesses seem to be around 200k subs. From server activity I've seen it seems to be growing slowly, but I have no idea if thats correct. |

“Game Experience May Change During Online Play” is about ESRB ratings, not changing game content! |
Nope. |

I vote no, its a good MMO, but not the best! I love the PvE and storyline, but the depth of systems, hobbies and crafting are minimal at best for now! I still love FFXI and nothing has come close to the depth that game offers... |

Originally posted by Katashi-kun I think there should be another option in there: "It's great, but not the best" I'm with Katashi on this. I love LoTRO and think it's a really great MMO. One of the best I've ever played. However, FFXI will always be #1 to me - despite its difficulties and the often greedy nature of many of its players... once you get past the initially awkward interface and get used to not having qest NPCs with ! and? over them... the game itself is brilliant. I really could go on and on about everything that makes that game brilliant to me.. but this is the LoTRO forum... so I won't.

"But nobody plays it.." Which server are you playing on? I'm seeing people everywhere, all level ranges, doing all types of quests. How you got 'nobody plays it' I don't know. |

OH come on. This is a great game but it does nothing original or ground breaking. This takes story I read 25 years ago and has me live the life of a person in the less significant more boring part of that stories world. I play an elf of nature, who has to kill 25 innocent bears that are neatly spaced out in a field just kinda standing there, just so I can make ONE pair of boots! ....... It is a great MMO ..... greatest game? Not even close. |

LoTRO is damn good, but best PC game ever is a bit over the top. However, I suggest that future posters in this thread nominate a game for best PC game ever when they post. Not that I think we will all agree, more that I am genuinely curious. I nominate: Ultima VII

Yeebo: Agreed - well pretty much every release Origin did or published in their prime... Privateer, Ultima VII, Underworld, Wing Commander, System Shock... Heck, I have dedicated box from the era just for running some of those oldies. Now I think about it there's lots of common with old Ultimas and LotRO, starting with a storyline you can follow when you feel like it but doing ton of other things meanwhile. As the MMO's go LotRO has been the game that has so far grabbed my attention for longest time after UO and Ryzom and I'd say it's a good game on it's own right, but not the greatest. At least yet. |

Well, since I've already cast my vote for what I think of LoTRO.... I'll give my take on my personal favorite PC game, at least of those I've actually played and liked enough to at least remember... My favorite of all time would have to be The Longest Journey, and, in combination with it, its sequel, "Dreamfall". Both are Adventure games. The storyline, puzzles and dialog in TLJ is among the best I've ever seen in a video game. No other game has had me so glued to it from start to finish as much as that. I'd recommend anyone play it who can set aside aged graphics (3D characters over static 2D backgrounds, in I believe 800x600 res) for a fantastic story with great characters, excellent voice acting and some really clever puzzles... keep in mind it's a Mature rated game as there is language.. not gratuitously, mind you. It's used when, and by whom you'd expect it. While Dreamfall takes a bit different an approach to the genre - is in real time 3D (gorgeously recreating the worlds of Arcadia and Stark... and a couple other locales) and has a very "light" dose of fighting, which you can avoid at times if you're aware enough of your surroundin | |||
