I intend to live forever -- So far so good!

Started WoW when it came out, played till 60 but once I got there I didn't feel like raiding and I found the pvp to be uninteresting personally so I left.  When Burning Crusade came out I got one of my friends to scroll rez my account so that I could see if I was missing anything.  I played the 10 days and got a level or 2 in the new areas and I was somewhat enjoying myself.  At that point I subbed for a month and one of my good friends came along.  The 2 of us went around, did quests and a bit of pvp while leveling to 70 but once we got there the novelty once again wore off and now we're both done with it.

The thing is, I've played other games and I've made life long friends because of them.  I see a few of them on a biweekly basis now and others that don't live in the same city I speak to on a daily basis but when it came to WoW none of that happened.  I found the people in it to be obnoxious and just uninteresting.  I just could not make any kind of connection with them.  Maybe it's why I no longer play the game.

I haven't played it and I have no interest in doing so.  I have friends who play and I've seen them running around and it bores me to tears, especially with the maturity level, or utter lack thereof, of most people on WoW.

Heck, I even won a free game in a contest, I've got it sitting here unopened.  I could play for FREE and I don't do it.  What does that tell you?

Funny how a thread that is obviously meant for people who never played WoW gets taken over by people who played it (some of them posting sensible things, some of them posting moronic flames).

Anyway, I never played WoW, just not my cup of tea. Saga of Ryzom released around the same time as WoW and was by far the better game for my style of play. Of course I'm aware that WoW is the hugely more successful game in terms of money and subscribers but that only means that the majority of people playing MMOs these days enjoys other things than I do.

There is so much work/money/time/effort put into wow than most other games its mind boggling. If you havent played WoW....then imo your arent that much of a MMORPG player. Yes WoW is way less difficult than alot of other games. I used to play lineage 2 and that game was pretty hardcore.

I played MMOs before wow and after, and I think "hey, playing wow was a waste of time", so who is right? And dont say "10mio players, 10mio players!", most of them never played another MMO and cant compare.

I have never played Warcraft, and never played WOW. I'm just not interested in the style, the background story, or anything about it.

It's kind of like that pet rock fad to me.....it just don't move me.

I thought I was the only one, lol.  Yep, never played WOW.  Actually, after I quit playing DAOC (back in tha day) I started following WOW while it was in development, hoping it would be the next PvP game.  When I finally saw it after launch, it looked like more of the same old stuff and I just lost interest.

Since then, I've had friends try to get me into it, but I've just never heard or seen anything from the game that would interest me.  Linear, theme park, static quests, gear centric, ultra cartoony art style...none of them really appeal to me.  Of course, I could try it out anyway, but Id almost guarantee that it would last about as long as LOTRO did for me...a few months, tops.

"Don''t take life seriously because you can''t come out of it alive."

- Warren Miller

Missing out on WoW when you're a gamer is a real shame.

It represents not only genuine MMO history but history for gaming overall. It's a high water mark in the industry that will take quite some time to reach from an online game and on a personal note I have doubts that we'll see it reached by an MMO or at least that by which we know them to be right now.

That's not to say everyone should like it, play it or even not have deep disdain for it but from a gaming point of view for those gamers who just love games, it's a undoubtedly an extremely important game and experience you shouldn't miss if you have an interest in these types of games.

I've loved my times in WoW over the years, just as I've enjoyed my times in the games before and those I'll experience in the future but WoW was special and I hope for those still playing it's around for a long time to come.

I can udnerstand avoiding WoW since it is very much a copy of EQ, but avoiding Guild Wars is robbing yourself of seeing some very unique mechanics even if you don't wind up liking the game.

Or in other words avoiding one is not the same as avoiding the other, unless you are doing it merely to not be like other people.  But that is a terrible reason to do things.
