Well yes you are right.

Funcom has the finished version of AOC , but they decided to make open beta test - that will influence oppinions of thousands of potentional customers , on old and buggy client.

And than when 50% of open beta testers decide not to buy the game , convincing their friends and families in process.

Than Funcom will whip out "real" client and the people that stuck and had trust in Funcom will benefit from playing AOC in its full shine , and culled of all "non believers"

  Try finding the last 2 Jason Stone interviews (one vid and one internet radio).  Then go over to the community forums and look throught the open beta sticky's/known issues.

 The proof about the OB client's age is all there and was, for the most part, clearly stated more than a week ago.

 Those should have everything about the age of the OB client.  What has been supported, what has not and why. 

I dont know what your guy's problem is Im running a Geforce 8800 Go  and im getting 40-55 FPS on high with all the special effects except anti aliasing off. If my laptop can run it Any mid range computer shouldnt have a problem.

I also have a tricked out machine with 2 9800 GTX's quadcore 3.2 ghz 8 gigs of ram and I get a solid 64.1 FPS anywhere and everywhere.

 They've said the reasons for the lvl 13 cap, the bugging of some the quests intentionally and the reasons behind the older game client without optimization.

 Anything with the word Beta=Test.  Your the Tester and you test what the developers want you to, not the other way around.

Unfortunately, the links where devs have stated these things are on a forum which is covered by the NDA. So I'm unable to link them, as I value my spot. You'll just have to trust me on this one. Or you can ask on the open beta forums, as I'm sure they'll be happy to respond. More than likely, it'll already be in a FAQ on the open beta forums, but I haven't been there, so I don't know.

The texture compression part is very common place in most all betas though.

Its actually really small compared to most other games, and its not a beta.  They came out and said that they wished they had called it a trial instead, because thats what its for.

Except that means that they aren't stress testing the areas of the game which aren't protected by heavy instancing.  Oh, and their reasons for not using the REAL client are weak in my book.  Its REAL close to launch, the lazy &%^%*@'s need to be testing the ACTUAL GAME.  The one WITH optimization...to be sure its optimized well, and can deal with a TRUE massive amount of players.

 B:  Not the actual game

  C: Not the actual game engine

  So really you aren't 'testing' anything, were you truly a tester at all.  They don't NEED to stress test tortage...half of the experience there is protected by instances to cope with newbie zone masses.  They NEED to be stress testing the areas of the game that AREN'T, and I don't know why you and half the fanheads around here can't see that clearly.

Link the it's not a test.  

It's a beta to Stone and Gaute.  I mean they just spent weeks saying so.   The community forums seem to agree with them.

Stress test, is not only for the client engine, it's for the server side connectivety under load.   The 50k from FP and the rest from other sites win a spot is a large scale test and your payback for the testing is the  limited sneak peak.
