SCIENCE PROVES CAPS LOCK CAN CURE CANCER. |
...ok, this is my hundreth question about the download(s), but this should be my last one (at least for a short while When I finished downloading from fp, and the age of conan thing finished installing the resource database afterwords, the update manager (the sort of Funcom thing with various age of conan pictures fading in and out of it in the background) was finally ready. I get an error message above the line that would normally show the download progress: "Could not connect to patch server. Can not continue." It also says in that little area where they hold notes (such as for the PvP weekend it was the area where they put information such as memory leaks, ranger overpowered, yellow textures etc.): "There was a problem trying to fetch the latest patchnotes. Please try again later! Sincerely, Funcom" I'm asking if this is what is supposed to happen to ensure that people don't play until May 1st or if there was an error when I downloaded. So basically what I'm asking is, if anyone has finished downloading, do you generally get this same message on the update manager? Or would it completely finish downloading, you could open the complete Age of Conan client, and it wouldn't take you any further? I am pretty sure this is normal to ensure that people don't play until may 1st, but I just want to make sure so that I'm not screwed over by that time. Thanks in advance.

While there hasn't been an official word, we are all taking it has the patch servers are not up yet. Since the open beta is set to start Thursday at 9 am est [if I did my conversion right, I may not have, they say 0900 EST] then I would expect to see the patch server up a day before. |

Doubt is a pain too lonely to know that faith is his brother. |
Its working as intended, when the patch servers go up it will work find and second probably to stop beta leakers who are banned from reading the patch notes and continuing to pretend they are in beta and know whats going on. You will beok when the patch servers go up :) |

Looks like the patching servers are up, I have just started patching mine. First the patcher updated itself and now it's happily patching. :) |

The pen is mightier than the sword if the sword is very short, and the pen is very sharp. |
Originally posted by GnazonYep. When I read the above post I tried patching. I picked up one file and then got a 'ghostly image' of the FC 'There's something wrong with the patch notes' window. (Patch NOTES error, not the patcher itself). Then it's scanned my local files and started patching again, all the while with the 'There's something wrong with patch notes' announcement in the background. All patches coming in between 650K and 1MB per second. 1st - about 8MB ( so fast I didn't catch it) 2nd - 181MB = 3-4 minutes 3rd - 13MB 4th - 179 = about 4 minutes. And that's it! All ready to play..except for the lack of a logon server and game server to log into. lol

I have had the same experience, patching went really painless and quick, save for lack of patch notes. Looks like all we can do now is wait two more days. :) |

Mine has started patching today, though initially it did so at a decent pace (1.8 Kb/s on average) but then it finished that one, restarted the download manager and now it's going at a snails pace (~250-500 Kb/s). I hope it's just a temporary system their using for this, nothing annoys me more than a capped/slow patcher heheh I have a 15 Mb/s connection and though I know not to ever expect speeds that fast, the average I get is about 1.5-2.5 Kb/s for most games/websites - and I like that, hence why it annoys me to get some much slower. ;) But to get back to my original message (sorry for the tangent, haven't had my coffee yet this morning
