I've heard that EA-Mythic is opting to not implement twitch combat?  Anyone know why?  Have they commented on this?  I felt this is one of the greatest features of DAoC.

Twitch combat in DaoC? I never played DaoC but I have a hard time believing that it had true twitch combat int he sense that most people think of that term.

To answer your question though, most MMO's are not based on twitch combat because of latency issues...Think of trying to play a fighting game like Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter and having your opponent see a smooth animation while you watch choppy animations at a slower frame rate.  It would give your opponent an unfair advantage

There's something kinda sad about the way that things have come to be, desensitized to everything, what became of subtlety?

Why So Serious?

Uhhh DAoC didn't have any twitch combat that I remember...did they change how the combat works once you got out of the trial??

If ignorance were bliss, the world would be a *much* happier place.

DAoC has no twitch combat...well, unless you're an epileptic.

Ok, so DAoC didn't have the "conventional" twitch combat.  Poor choice of words on my part.  It did, however, have both positional and reactive combat, i.e when someone evades, there is a evade reaction to counter attack.  I heard WAR, which I'm very excited about, has a combat system reminscient of most other MMOs, such as EQII, WoW, etc.  Why didn't they stick with the reactionary combat?  I throughly enjoyed that because it was more interactive and although it was still based on stats, it was a nice mix of both stats and player skill.

WAR has Positional attacks..not sure about reactionary ones ... but they do have Collision Detection and Knock Backs as well.  Not quite sure where you got this idea from.  They're building on their DAoC combat system ... they're not starting fresh.

Its not a standard system but its not so revolutionarly over done that people can't hop in and play.

You can either agree with me or be wrong!

Say wha?

WoW may not have had many positionals but it certainly has reactionary combat(moves off block, parry, dodge etc). Also the way WoW's PvP is based on fighting over distance between you and your opponent it has always felt a lot more interactive to me than Daoc ever did (at least on my hunter).

The Original Hater

majority of the moves are combo and reactive

only a FEW charachters have an anytime melee attack ike mortal strike/sinister strike. and NONE of the classes can win a fight pressin 1 button..

the light tanks front line fighters and the witch hunter/Witch elf deal possitional damage... since in theory they will not be standing toe to toe with anyone

Dark Age of Camelot has a great combat engine, and I really enjoyed that game for the 3 years I played.  This is the main reason why I am closely watching WH development, because Mythic has such a great track record.

I am guessing that positional attacks include stuff like backstab, etc.  The question I have is someone noted above about being able to block someone?  Does WH have a system that actually tracks a player's position and you can prevent someone from passing . . . that would be really neat.
