Age of Conan

I must be excited about Age of Conan.  What is weird is that I really know next to nothing about the game.  Perhaps that is why I am still tingly about its coming launch.  It has been so long since any good games have come out.  This past fall, Tabula Rasa was launched to somewhere between a yawn and angry disappointment from most of the gaming population.  AoC seems to have more public interest.

I have entered a pre-game preparation phase.  For some reason I want everything to be just right for this game that I know nothing about...

Many people are worried that their computers will not be up to the task of AoC, many others are worried that the poor beta rumors and 3-day pre-launch confusion and mount issues will go unresolved.

What have you done to prepare for this game's launch?

So far I have completely rebuilt a new computer to a super-chilled Quad Core (actually that was for Tablua Rasa) 

> Changed the OS from XP 32bit to XP Pro 64bit.  To maximize my Quad and enable more RAM

> Slid in a new 8800GTX GPU tossing out the old (cough - year old at best) 8600GTS so I can be certain to be able to play this with good graphics settings.

> Tossed out the 4-Giggs of high end RAM (less that a year old too) and put in Four bars of 2Gigs each to maximize my memory.

> Bought Kinesis Foot Peddals to maximize my appendage interface for moving my shield around.

> Purchased a new LaCie 24" monitor to see the game better.

> Purchased the BestBuy preorder Rhino and 3-day pre-launch key

> Bought the Collectors Edition to get a the shiney new +2% Xp ring and some "Cloak of the Drunkard"

> Picked up a logitech G9 mouse... which I didn't like so wnet back to my thumb roller-ball one.

> Got a new Nostromo 52TE because it is a better color (black and neato blue) than my older black/silver/orange n52.

> and got a Warrior XXTreme secondary keyboard to have some fun extra keys to play with.

Even is this game stinks I have had a blast getting ready for it.  And worst case scenario I will be totaly ready for when War Hammer or Stargate Worlds or something else comes out later this fall!

Wow seriousley though i bought a medium settings computer. Btw wife is still giving me the i dont approove of you buying a useless toy look hehehe.

Once i buy a new vid card for it ,one that it ships with is not that great, and some more ram in ill be cooking with crisco!

I did invest in an xbox controller too, but that was only about 50% because of AoC.

Perhaps I am over doing it a bit.  But I am hoping that even if the game is somewhat lacking, cognative dissonance will make me enjoy the game!

I am also worried by what everyone has been saying about the need for higher-end goodies on my computer.  The pre-order box only lists a Dual Core with 2.5 Gigs RAM and a 7900GTX  GPU... that doesn't seem like enough to run this very well from what I am hearing

 hehe, and I am doing this for any and all games coming out, but AoC gets the credit because it is the one that is next.  (I can do this because I have put off having children for another year or two... and my boyfriend doesn't pay my bills so he can just shush.  I don't bug him about his Pistons Tickets

... or at least not that much... or maybe just not that often.

yes feel free to toss your old ram in my trash can, so i can dig it out when nobodys looken.I just got my new pc in the mail, and its basicly what u tossed out lol, less actualy ><  u tarnished my joygasim

Wow, lets see going from xp to ultimate vista for the direct 10 of course.   Ordering new ram heh old ram was only ddr2 4200 going to ddr2 6400 and will be getting a the E6600 chip set with my rebate, figure this will be my last upgrade for awhile will need to get a new motherboard if I want to do more.

Well, I was never one to have a top of the line system for gaming but over the years, I grew tired of laggy gameplay so......I finally went out and bought a new computer and 22" monitor thanks to AOC twisting my arm. And with the help of some very nice people on the forums, they steered me in the right direction as far as video cards go. I had to buy one of those as well.
