The Lineage II North American Dev Team has provided us with this new developer diary entitled, "What’s So Cool about Hellbound and the 4th Anniversary Edition".

On Wednesday, April 23, 2008, NCsoft will be celebrating the four-year anniversary of Lineage II: The Chaotic Throne’s launch in both North America and Europe. This fantasy massively multiplayer online role-playing game is one of the premier player-versus-player (PvP) games in the market today, with a customer reach of over nineteen million players worldwide. With the game’s four-year anniversary coming, we wanted to do something special for not only our current players, who have been with us for a very long time now, but also appeal to those who have played in the past to come back and celebrate with us.

The Lineage II: The Chaotic Throne – 4th Anniversary Edition box includes a special edition DVD featuring the Lineage II game client and all of the previously released expansions, all on one convenient disc. If you’re new to the game or just haven’t played in awhile, you can just use the DVD to quickly update to the most current version. Those that buy the box can make use of a whopping sixty days of play time and get access to two exclusive in-game items, the Black Half Mask (a special head accessory) and a Pig Lollipop (which transforms you  into a loveable pig – it’s fun!).

Read it all here.

Cheers,

Indeed, what's so cool? In fact, what's so cool about Lineage to begin with? It's another hack attempt at an MMO (which Koreans are notorious for), I can't believe people actually pay for this shit.

Its actually a pretty good hardcore pvp game, that's why it's one of the most succesful mmo's ever.

It's actually an extremely good game. It has its issues but if you understood this section of the genre you would realize that it stands heads and shoulders above the typical Korean Grinder. Problem is you need to put so much into it in order to learn this that most people end up just moving on.

Lineage 2 rocks

Games, above all else, are about fun. MMORPG's are no different. If you are not having fun, find something else to do with your time and money and stop your bitchin.

Hi! :)

Let me ask something. Why is a "?" sign at Lineage 2 pvp status? Its a simple mass pvp game. All stories on the servers about mass pvp.

We make mass pvps on castle seieges (every 2nd weekend), on fortress siges (every day if we want), and the gatekeepers at epic raid bosses. Moreover, usually the pvp at bosses more than epic than the raid boss.

And of corse, we make pvp all the time, when we see an opponent... :)

I know, Lineage 2 isnt popular in this website. And I know the reason. Only who plays with this game see, why arent a lot of long storytelling quest in this game. Its simple. Couse the players make the story. Just see of history of Franz server.

The original main clans are in the past. But they renew in new clans, when the old ones torn to fregments. There were, and there are a lot of drama. A story with "a poor girl become the slave of darkness" cant race with when old friends and clanmates become of members of enemy clans, and hunt each other...

from what i remember from the time i played it. The pvp was one of the best with castle sieges. I would have continued playing, but the grind was too much for me.

Playing: EVE Online
Favorite MMOs: WoW, SWG Pre-cu, Lineage 2, UO, EQ, EVE online
Looking forward to: Earthrise, Kingdom Under Fire 2

Who is John Galt?

I never got in to L2 because it seemed like, from reading about it, that the PvP was the typical zerg style korean PvP and the leveling was grinding. Didn't seem like fun. Also, typical class system, nothing new.

Well, considering when it was made, it was actually pretty new given the style of the game. Remember, the first Lineage was supposed to be inspired by diablo. Sort of a 2d game. It really does resembel diablo. Now cut to Lineage 2 and it jumps quite a bit from the 2d game that Lineage was.

Given the time it was released it was graphically heads and shoulders above most games. However, you are right, it is very much a korean grinder. The interesting thing to me is how much it is heads and shoulders above the regular korean grinder in terms of quality.

But yes, you are correct, if one does not like that style of game then in no way will Lineage 2 appeal to them.
