RMS Titanic sank three hours after hitting an iceberg in the early morning of April 15th 1912. Roughly one third of those on board survived.

POTBS initiated server mergers on April 15th with roughly one third surviving.

Yes, I am laughing, I don't know who does FLS' PR but this is priceless.

Could be a freudian slip, after all in the words of FLS' grand imperial poobah Russel Williams - "...we’ve gone back and done a little post-mortem analysis..."

He probably used postmortem in informal way (after event) but I got another chuckle out of the fact that the exact meaning is "after death".

((Thanks Vetarnias for pointing to the Titanic reference.))

The free character transfers are in my opinion too little and too late. It would help a few months ago but now it is just one of many problems. Game balance, economics, flawed PvP etc. are just some of the things on the list that made most of the people leave the game.

It will be hillarious to keep an eye on offiical POTBS forums over next few months. My bet would be that insterad of consolidatign the population the game will continue leaking players. Why?

Some don't want to transfer as they prefered small servers and will quit over that. Number of non English speaking players, minority to be sure but present as a group, will leave because FLS quite simply cannot deliver what it promised - playing French/German/Spanish servers.

Now, best drama will come as all the griefer/ganker adders and snakes will become bunched up together. First they will gank out quickly any potential victims left causing most of the remaining PvE/econ players to pack their bags. After that part will quit for the lack of prey and other simply because they cannot compete.

With safe bubbles of small servers removed a lot of self proclaimed PvP greatness will either pack their bags or try to fight it out against established groups on their new servers. Some will probably succeed, but others will quit in the frustration.

And that, of course, is not counting how now servers will be perma red gank areas and RvR (such as it was) will degenerate even further.

All in all, the old problems and issues stayed unresolved save population density and the later will most likely cause more issues then it solves. And let us not mention that AoC, PvP heavy game, is jsut around the corner.

Watching FLS and POTBS is very informative, I enjoy MMOS' and this is a great way to learn of what to avoid in the future.

When I made the Titanic reference on the PotBS forums, one of their staffers just commented:

"Oh man, the office just went nuts when I yelled this out."

I still have no idea what to make of it.  Went nuts?  Yelled? I can't believe no-one there made the connection beforehand.  I don't want to read too much into what he said, but, according to his account, apparently this was the cause of a small commotion back at FLS headquarters.

Well, judging by their past performance, FLS staff seems rather unflexible in their thinking. I am trying to be charitable here.

My bet would be that the whole thing went something like: Uhh, we didn't know that..., That is not good!, *gets excited and reacts by posting*

I have heard in game chat among society members that they can't wait until AoC comes out, and they are going to migrated over. Causes me to wonder the effect the upcoming AoC release will have on this game, and whether there may be more server merges in the future. Or maybe a meeting scheduled for the parking lot....

The other hot topic in chat is WAR, which, I noticed, has the pre-order collectors boxes, which guarantee a spot in open beta, already on the local Best Buy shelves.

How many will stay with POTBS, how many to AoC, and how many to the WAR open beta?

Stay tuned for the continuing saga......

4 is the minimium because of the one nation per server limit.

Beyond that - a redesign or... well you covered that.

Oh yes, that has been floating around for awhile and it gets stronger as POTBS goes down. For many it was just a placeholder game after all.

AoC and WAR are both PvP heavy (or PvP only) titles and their target audience are PvPers in all shapes and forms. Precisely the crowd POTBS wanted to net. When those two game release I think there will be slump all across the board as people will rush to try the new toy. Some will stay with new choices but I suspect many will go back to their original titles. I don't think games like EQII and LOTRO have anything to worry about - WOW PvP servers will definitelly be hit and with them small fringe PvP heavy games like POTBS.

Personally I don't think POTBS will survive although there will be a temporary relief when people get annoyed with AoC (it isn't all what the hype said) and while waiting on WAR.

“Game Experience May Change During Online Play” is about ESRB ratings, not changing game content!

"Post-mortem" is a pretty standard term that has been adopted by many industries, including the software industry.  It's typically an in-depth review of how a project proceeded, for better or worse, once completed in order to learn from it.

OP, u may be laughing, and yes they overestimated themselves i guess :p but theres a healthy population, more then enough to keep the game profitable for FLS

but ofcourse we have to wait till AOC and WAR hit the shelves

Game will probably continue like Vanguard, Matrix etc.

Real shame these bad releases do not die out so the industry would learn to only release good quality products. Until that happens we will continuously suffer from these bogus game releases, I'm afraid.
