I really dont know what to think atm. What I have seen so far is making me really wonder if anyone can pull of what FC is up to atm. I've looked at pretty much every video out there and scanned the websites. Videos look nice but half of the time even in demenstration the servers crash. Now.. after seeing the AO servers failing for the first few months that just CAN'T be a good sign. No of the content I've seen so far is MMO content. Its all one person walking, running or riding around. That doesn't sound pormising to me. Recomended rig... Now. PPL can say whatever they like but those that play MMOs know how much FPS and no lag matters. So are we seeing a game that will be running over 20fps with 40 ppl in same area? And do you need PC from Nasa for that ? And it must eat up memory and have long time loading screens. Graphics. Look great but how many bad paths and holes will it create? My guess is alot. And I mean ALOT. HOw fun will it be to fight mobs that run away from you to be able to get to you ? I think we will see alot of those and even more of where players become stuck cause of enviroment issues. Combat. Melee combat looks ... well nice... But is this game just gonna be about chopping heads as melee and nothing else ? Was watching video of the makers explain the system and tbh the Spell system seems to be very weak. What kinda game can maintain any kinda integrity when it seems to be supporting just one way of playing ? How good of a launch can this game throw out. Considering the lenght it has been in development it has to be very very smooth now so it should be great. But ... will it really ? There are huge names behind this game but is that enough ? I'm really not sure. I see this one beeing full of maybes - so many that no normal person should take any chance of Pre-order. My advise. Wait for release. Hope for lift of NDA and lets hear from the testers what has been going on. But if no NDA will be lift then we all know it was bad. I think many are hoping for a good game in AOC. But pretty much everything is telling us it will be.... anything but smooth sailing. But even if it did. Will it ever be a playable MMO with big siege battles and raids ? Can any kinda rig atm handle such groups of players with this kinda graphic? I just can't see it happen. |

i heard they weren't gonna lift the NDA. i hope they do i like many have alot to say. if they are gonna lift it i would think they'd do it fairly soon(couple of weeks) or they could delay release i guess.
as far as being the biggest flop im history who knows. i'd like to know AoC budget then compare it to what was spent making vanguard then we can compare. anyone have any idea what was spent making AoC and vanguard or is that info not released? |

Well first off the title of your thread is a tad off... The biggest flop in MMO history (and AoC can't surpass it) was Vanguard. Why? With all the "hardcore" EQ1 people that expected a return to that type of game. Brad McVanguard.. I mean he was like a god who walked the earth and created game worlds. AoC.. well Funcom... for an MMO they have shown us Anarchy Online. I was there.. I played it from launch for about two years. Heck I even beta tested it. I'm suprised that the game... is still around and to some extent that Funcom is still around. (I'm not bashing funcom). Anyway the point is.. to be the biggest flop.. you have to have the biggest anticipation.. and AoC just isn't there. I have it pre-ordered... but its no where near the top of my "MMO's I was most excited about" list. Beyond that... Are you in beta? Has there been some massive bunch of NDA leaks/breaks I'm not aware of? (as with vanguard). Or are you just basing everything you are posting on videos you've watched that were made to show a certain aspect of something. I mean I'm in another beta.. where they show amazing videos... but no where in the "beta" version of the game.. can you find what the video's show. So I guess there are two extremes to that video thing... Not showing enough.. and tech demo's that don't actually exist in your product. |

In todays day and age crashing servers is not even a concern especialy in a next gen game, IF a server crashes nine times outa ten its on purpose this is why they do stress tests prior to its launch. Any game out there that crashes on an ongoing bases is old and not worth putting the time and money into to preventing this from happening... And to address your concern with regards to a rig/performance, AoC is not the first game to have castle sieges or large realm vs realm battle. They are however the first game that will make it exciting! That is not to say it will not be a demanding game with regards to its graphics but it is next gen which usualy means time to upgrade the old video card (like I did) or for some people buy a new rig (like 2 of my guild mates did) |

AOC has the biggest anticipation of any MMO atm. Well.. at least acording to this side. And in terms of companies behind the game then you wont find them much bigger. So its just not Funcom who will take the fall. I've been playing WoW since launch but quit few weeks ago cause Id dont like where the game is heading now and there is a growing inbalance in the game. I have a PC that runs that game on full 60 fps - but in cities and raids there its more like 30-40. And I've tried alot of games the past 3 weeks to see where I should end up this time and pretty much all can run full detail with my current rig (8800 gtx vidoe should do fine I hope) Im defently gonna wait and see others will say about this one. Like I said - Not lifting NDA is a sign of weakness cause if beta has been going great then it will give the game even more lift for pre-order. But the first days will probably give us enough info if we should spend some time on this one. One good sign tho - The beta testers seem to be busy playing so lets hope for the best ! |

I don't know how closely you followed Vanguard in its beta days... but everyone with half a brain knew it was going to be a flop long before it launched. It was being slammed by beta testers all over the internet. AoC may flop, but it won't hold a candle to the failure of Vanguard. AoC has a different situation. Instead of people pouring out of the woodwork with hatred and clearly-posted messages of how awful the game is and how it's like a month from release and they are still changing core systems, the AoC testers that are leaking out info have a lot of hope for the game, despite their concerns of the work that is still needed. As for the trolls who are only talking about how awful it is, or how they've heard it's terrible from a friend, it's all one-sided useless comments that leave you wondering if they even know anything about the game. To conclude: I don't think it will be a flop. I do think it will be semi-rushed(mainly because Funcom always seems 3 steps behind where they are supposed to be), but the game itself will be intact enough to play and patch on I am betting. There are some features that are getting cut because of the deadline, so it's more likely we'll just see some of the expected things having been removed than a non-functioning game. |
