"We got your game"
(and we screwed it)

Everybody expecting the next WOW killer, but what will happen is that new MMORPGs will make people realise how good WOW is (compared to them).

*shock*

*horror*

*go back to WOW*

*flame flame*

*noob*

Ok, just wait and see. Enjoy.

edit: I'm talking WAR and AoC here, now that's a prediction!

"Predicting" what has been happening for the last couple of years is kind of pointless :p

Whether the trend continues is another matter. Personally I think wow will come to look more and more dated when put side by side with some of the upcoming stuff. That doesn't mean it's subscriptions won't remain in the millions though.

Sick of the crap on the radio? Try ETN.fm or party107.com

People will change from WoW to another MMO.  It'll happen sometime.  They can't succeed forever, its just not possible.

"Waaaagh!"

I'm still playing WoW on a casual basis.. the breakpoint for me will probably be when Wrath of the Lich King lands; there'll likely be a few other MMO's out by that time and as WoW expansions basically devalue everything by putting in another 10 levels to grind and massively more powerful equipment, I imagine a lot of people are going to use that as a time to try out the new MMO's.

I tried WoW in open beta, never liked it. Tried a trial about three times, again never liked it. The only P2P I have right now is LOTRO and I haven't logged in for about a week, so I have to wonder why I'm paying for it. In the end, WoW will still be around, but to the OP none of these games will make WoW shine as WoW is very much different from AoC, WAR, Aion, and etc in many other ways. Each of the titles that are coming up have different focuses compared to WoW. I doubt AoC was planned or is even going to be a causal user's game. The same for WAR and other titles on that are slated for release. The reason for this conclusion of mine? Because these developers know the casual market is pretty much locked in by Blizzard. Thus, they're going for niches, which will make them profitable, but not something on the scale of WoW.

So, when you take it in that context, WoW will be there, but so will there be other titles. Variety and creative destruction are the best things for the market. WoW will get the latter probably in a few years.

"You''re wrong about drug use, when its not abuse ..."

Hi,

Your prediction could be right. I thought about it for a while but Blizzard planned a reaction. At the time WAR and AOC will be online WoW-players want to buy the newest expansion of the game. The expansion they have been looking forward to for such a long time. So many of the WoW players had the idea of buying a new mmorpg like WAR and AOC but Blizzard planned a great counterattack!

New generation UO anyone?

No doubt WoW is a very very successful game.

But I quited months ago after playing for almost 3 years, the end game contents are just too boring for hardcore players, it can attract new casual players though.

(To support this: I don't know if it is only my server, but if you know about end game raiding guilds, there are very high rate of raiders quitting, but there are more new raiders come out from nowhere to fill the spot,. The leaders have to train them up again though.)

There is no other game on the market catches my attention yet, looking forward to a few games in development,. But I won't get back to WoW definitely, its just too boring. Adding new instances and gears won't attract me. Also, the upcoming hero class is nothing more than just a new class.

--------------------------------------------------
MMO played:
DragonRaja
Dungeons & Dragons Online
Lineage
Lineage 2
Tibia (first one, very intermittently)
Ultima Online (greatest systems, but bad interface and bug)
World of Warcraft (longest, 3 years, but boring endgame)

MMO tried:
Dungeon Runners
EverQuest
Exteel
Lord of the Rings Online
Ragnarok Online
Requiem
Runescape
The 4th Coming

and some other Chinese/Korean or beta MMOs
