Youll have to wait for open bate to start and none knows for sure when that will be.  Probable a couple months off.

Well since you got the "Preorder" when preorders aren't even authorized at this point I would be glad you got it early.

The code will probably (speculation at this point) be activated next week when they announce the Pre-orders and possibly the release date. You will then get access to "Open" beta when they decide to open it which was "leaked" as something like April 15th.

Bottom line. March 26th you will find out.

This is actually quite funny. Shows how clueless the gaming industry is when it comes to releasing products in a professional manner. Customers getting "secret" codes that aren't suppose to be released yet without even trying.

It has nothing to do with the gaming industry, it is the retail side that is not keeping their side of the bargain. When you plan to announce a pre-order which will have something additional (like in this case game codes), you need to ship that material to the distributors/retailers beforehand. In practically all cases this comes with an agreement not hand out the material before the agreed upon date. I know that in Europe, retailers can be (and have been) sued for having broken that agreement in case of product releases. But as a pre-order is technically not a product release I'm not sure how that is handled. How this is handled in the US, I have no clue either. But it seems that large US retailers like Gamestop, simply do not care about their agreements, as long as they can get their money as quickly as possible...

The one mistake you could argue that EA/Mythic made, is to plan ahead. What they should have done is to officially announce the CE/pre-orders/etc with extra game codes next week, and then tell the people that it will be made available at their local store a month later. This is the only way that no half-assed retailer will try to get ahead at the cost of everyone else. And if these kind of practices continue, it may well go that way for future releases. At the cost of us gamers of course...

Warhammer
Alliance

There is alot of propoganda associated with release dates.

From a business stand point these guys have to have an internal date when they plan release, and no matter what they tell us, they know at least 4-6 months before exactly WHEN they will release.  Don't believe the 'its ready when its ready' statements.  An international company cannot operate with deadlines and release dates up in the air 4 months before release.  Its naive to think otherwise.

In short, they have a deadline and they will release on that deadline no matter what.  And remember within a few weeks before release manufacturers will have to swicth on their production lines and begin churning out the CDs and boxes.  This is not something that can be done within a matter of days, they have to order materials and artwork and get the presses going.

Not true at all.  Blizzard especially has shown this.  They have pushed back release dates for games numerous times because they have a "it's ready when it's ready" attitude.  A Release date is nothing more then a goal.  Any company with good backing and the necessary funding to go further along will make sure the game is ready before releasing it.

Games release for two reasons either the company feels that it is done or they run out of money to keep producing it.  (2nd instance is why we get buggy games like Vanguard)

Currently playing:
LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)

Looking Foward too:
Bioware games (Dragon Age & MMO)
