This probably puts it best.

For some of the more experienced MMO gamers out there Lotro is nothing but fake. Amazing graphics put over a shallow gameplay. The fun element is the chit chat with friends during the playtime. Everything else is just boring. Shame they did it with Lord of the rings - brilliant licens = wasted.

The sad thing is that WoW is a totally solo game if one chooses.  After playing for over two years I can testify to this by experience.  And where everquest has also been WoW cloned to the point of being so much like WoW it isn't funny anymore.

Both games getting 60-80 people to team up for the good of one person is a rarity and when it is accomplished is usually done by manipulation and at the risk of constant infighting and bickering.  The reason is that spending hours and hours of raiding for one person is ineffective, meaning that most of those 60 - 80 people will only see crumbs from the kings table since it is impossible to give 80 people a 4 hour raid each night for one single piece of gear.

WoW and Everquest do way more to promote solo play than you give them credit.

Or for the rest of us experienced MMO gamers (7 years here) Lotro is a nice change from the grind of other MMO's that give meaningless quests, operate based on gear rather that skill, offer hours and hours of pointless kill mob after mob and get very little in return, and a company that actually honors Tolkien's story line rather than mutilate it for a few hardcore gamers that the best they can do is wait for the movie to come out since they have no time to read due to heavy raiding constraints.

OR....

We have read the books, and put our faith into Turbine making something special from Tolkiens lore, but instead created a world that is more dry and boring than any MMO on the planet.......and made a mockery of the Tolkien legend...

Especially for experienced MMO vets....

And this is based on what exactely?????

Refusal to build a two sided war with PvP?  I am pretty sure Tolkien himself would not have agreed to that, and I believe most others if they would understand the conditions and reasons he wrote the books in the first place!

Or because there is no magic per say in the game?  There really wasn't in the book either!

I mean the above is just two assumptions that I could be wrong about what you mean, and I sure would like to know more.

You're giving open's post more consideration than it deserves. He's a self-described LoTRO hater who, for some reason, seems to feel it necessary to post here regularly to pointlessly illustrate this fact.

He seems to feel he holds a monopoly (or at least a majority) on knowing what LoTRO could/should/would have been. Though he occasionally tries to defend them as him merely stating his opinion, the fallacy in that is evident when he uses would-be qualifying statements, such as "Especially for experienced MMO vets....".

Is it over yet...

His opinion Dragon. Frankly hes entitled to it and theres not one thing wrong with that. He doesn't like the way the game delivered the storyline. So be it. I like the way it does. I personally like the fact Openedge is honest. Hes never been one to hide his feelings. Hopefully people like him find the game they want.

I personally think the frameworks they added to the game was left slightly basic so we the players could tell our own stories. The actions of players in this game are INCREDIBLE! But again thats just my opinion. Anywhoo off to lunch:D

Honest with his opinion, you say? Hmm... I'd say it's more like he beats people over the head with it.

Further, it's hardly him offering an opinion when he uses qualifying statements like "Especially for experienced MMO vets...." to try and support it.

There are plenty of so-called "MMO vets" who play and enjoy LoTRO quite alot. To name a few... myself, two personal friends of mine and ~8 others I've met while playing when we've gotten on the topic about LoTRO compared to others we've played over the past years. There are some in these very threads who have a pretty considerable track-record of MMOs that would certainly earn them such a "title".

We all don't count, I guess, because we don't share his views. Or, we're automatically "inexperienced" because we do enjoy it.

And he has found his game - just go to the EQ2 forums and watch how rabidly he supports it - one might almost call it "fanboy-ish" at times.

From what I've read of his posts on there, he shows none of the acceptance and respect of negative opinions about EQ2 as you're suggesting his opinions be shown here. Many times, he pounces on anyone who utters any criticism of EQ2 - and they're not even talking down the game the way he habitually does with LoTRO.
