and are you 100% positive it was your manually installed virus software that found it? did it say mcafee or norton or AVG or whatever virus scanner you have? because if i visit a webpage, any webpage, even one with a real virus on it's homepage, and anything at all pops up and tells me theres a virus, or even says virus, the first thing i do is scan my computer for spyware and find the program that pops up window links to their virus software purchase page, i obliterate it, and then i find out what gave me that godforsaken spyware to begin with. The "you have a virus on this computer!!!" popups *whether internet or windows popups* and the "companynamehere has found a virus in your makeupadirectory! click here to use productnamehere to remove the virus!" popups are fairly common for internet machines, the last time i saw a post about this, it got 3 oblivious responses asking did he check this or what prog caught it where is the virus blah blah and the forum admin locked the post thankfully before anyone else could post without having a clue to what they're talking about.
Simply put, spyware is getting clever, and the #1 most popular form of successful spyware is "Trick The User" formats that leave you thinking it's real, when all it is, is the spyware making a fake popup with a bogus reason for you to click the linked picture and go buy their crappy unheard-of software suites
manage browser add-ons, check for anything without a corporate signature, and hope your spyware is one of the few in your anti-spyware program list "Sometimes, things that may or may not be true are the things a man needs to believe in the most. People are basically good. Honor, courage, virtue mean everything. Power and money, money and power mean nothing. Good always triumphs over evil. Love, True Love Never Dies." |

I would assume the OP doesn't really care if there is a virus or not as he took the time to log in and post. It would seem that this site is so layered with viruses is keeping the people away. On a more serious note, anything that could do real damage is generally blocked by the most basic of virus protection or firewall. Simply put I know what my computer is up too. Also, should check out what programs are starting up under run: msconfig. I would also believe the techs at this site know what their doing from a virus point (yeah I saw that addon, I am watching you guys). I got so much |
Word of a warning to our newer members: mmorpg.com was virus compromised several times in last years. And not by any viruses , but by specialy designed key-recording password stealing trojans , aimed specially at this very site. Admins tried their best , but attacks were relentless and lasted for hours. It is done by goldselling hackers , that want to steal game accounts - naturally they will target the bigest mmo site around. The mmorpg.com itself is not hacked , but hackers are crushing advertisment sites , and replacing the adds with same ones with added trojan/virus.
What can you do to protect yourself ?
