July 28, 2007: A day the silent majority spoke and brought down the communications of the US Capitol

There has been some legal debates going on at Star Trek Games (www.startrek-games.com) about releasing a 60 page game design document of the older version of Star Trek Online.  Just as the first portion of the document was to be posted, a legal rep notified the admin of the site, of the following (in brief):

“…
We understand from various website postings that are attributed to you that you may be in possession of certain documentation relating to the Star Trek Online game that contains intellectual property, the rights to which belong to our client and its licensors.

… Our client respectfully requests that you refrain from posting any materials containing intellectual property that you do not own, including but not limited to any artwork, storylines, character progressions or game design specifications.

Our client respectfully reserves its full rights in the event that you choose to post infringing materials.”

Following this was a debate whether or not this message was true, as well as some other legal items.  However, once the name of the legal representative was made known, Timothy J. Harris of Morrison & Foerster, I did some investigative work, and found that Mr. Harris is the legal representative of Cryptic Studios.  This is verified by the Champions Online’s Privacy Policy page is the following:

Part VI. California Privacy Rights

California Civil Code Section 1798.83 permits customers of the Cryptic Studios who are California residents to request certain information regarding its disclosure of personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes. To make such a request, please send an e-mail to caprivacy@crypticstudios.com or write us:

This led me to believe that Cryptic Studios is the new developer, which has now been confirmed by TrekMovie.Com.

And that is why...

Conservatives' pessimism is conducive to their happiness in three ways. First, they are rarely surprised -- they are right more often than not about the course of events. Second, when they are wrong they are happy to be so. Third, because pessimistic conservatives put not their faith in princes -- government -- they accept that happiness is a function of fending for oneself. They believe that happiness is an activity -- it is inseparable from the pursuit of happiness.

Its good to see Cryptic going for something new then just Super hero games, I think they will do a great job with this game.

I hope they bring back Ship Interiors and the Holo-Deck and make the game a true skill based masterpiece like what was orginally stated.

Nice detective work there!
I have heard about the debate and discussion on the legitimacy of the C&D email.

Indeed interesting. I'm not sure if I'm happy Cryptic has taken over the project or not. I'll wait and see when they finally release info on the game before I cheer or vomit.

Again, nice work!

"We''re not making a game for Trekkies" Daron Stinnett, Perpetual Entertainment

I was hoping for Blizzard.  Cryptic has a good track recored, so I guess we can't complain.  At least the Star Trek franchise isn't in the hands of the PWhatever any longer.  I will this, if Cryptic has Daron working on this project, I'm protesting Cryptic Studios.

If this is true...

This is a good sign, thanks for the great detective work Dracus!

On a side note, Cryptic is also pretty good at having their own website and forum for the games they develope so they won't have to post on an "official STO fan forum." nuff said.
