I wish you would of exposed this information awhile ago before I played it for a couple years and thoroughly enjoyed the game the entire time until I left. |

Welcome to 7 years ago, This is not new information coming from Sony and the developers team that works on EverQuest. If anyone here is an EverQuest fan like myself, you'd know that a few years ago in EverQuest1 a guild was caught using a device to kill bosses. This device was an instant lifetapping rod that the tank or anyone in the raid could use that would kill bosses in a matter of minutes and heal the tank/casters. While investigating this, the guild was disbanded, and the person who gave this person the item was a GM. I'm not sure if the GM was fired, but the guild was disbanded and banned, either to cover their tracks or because Sony found it wrong. The honest truth is this however, if you were the one getting advice from GM's and Developers on how to beat a game, then whats the point of playing? For real, if your getting items like this, whats the purpose of playing the game? You have effectively wasted your life. You haven't learned anything, accomplished anything, or done anything amazing. While others may praise you for killing bosses, in the end your just a pathetic existance of a human being. |

Yep Neo, we will never agree on this specific issue. Calling this corruption or cheating, calling the devs dirtbags and calling for them to get terminated from employment seriously trivializes actual cheaters, corruption, and people who take advantage of others. All I am asking for is to understand that terminating a person from employment is a an extremely radical action that affects not only the person, but his family including children, wife/husband. For what? he gave out a strategy to a video game? C'mon... No one's gameplay was ever affected - the gear gained by the raid boss is on a PvE server so cannot be used against another player. The only thing that I do understand is in the terms of world firsts. If this indeed was one of them. If so, take that honor away from the guild. One side note, if a strategy site like eq2i publishes strategy articles, isnt that a better analogy as to what the developer actually did? |

Originally posted by IronMan66i never said anything about government and leaking, but nice comparison anyway *cough* nice trolling @ the last line read the fine print... a dev needs to ensure that everyone has EQUAL chances, yes that also count for endgame raiding, u can call it corruption but i can only say that its wrong. U dont pay money when someone else gets all the info and u dont. |

I have a couple of questions - a) Was this sanctioned; ie, is this part of official development policy? If so, this dev is getting a rough ride. It should be the company that receives complaints... b) Is this standard practice in other MMOs? ie, does wow test etc the same way? c) is there anything actually at stake in this 'competition' to kill the boss first? From what I read, the guild got praise on the official website for being superstars and some all-singing super reward popped up. d) Is anyone else's experience lessened? Maybe so, maybe so... then again, as I could never dream of having the time to spend all those hours playing I am not sure what drives the full-time no sleep players. e) Are MMOs improved by coopting high level guilds, and allowing them to play through content on a privileged basis? Perhaps.. we all argue that player feedback should be listened to. But I am not sure what is being tested when the answer to riddle is given out a priori.. |

Btw, to the person that said that giving out inside info would get you fired no matter how small the info, thats a load of crap.
Here's some inside info about hotels (where I work)... you know why hotels say they'll give you a deal if you call them directly or their central res line rather than booking your rooms online? Because the hotel stands to make more money that way. The online res sites like Expedia make commission the way a travel agent does (because thats what they are) so the hotel actually makes significantly less than what the customer sees. The hotel asks you to book with them because they stand to make more money.
There... do you think I'd get fired for telling you that? No. Its an important bit of information, but its not going to get me fired. I might get asked not to do it again (if my boss ever sees it) but I won't get fired for it.
Not everything is a firing type of offense and what the dev did isn't the end of the world and it isn't worth being fired over something so small. Its a stupid tactic on a stupid video game. Get over it. |
