I played WoW since it first came out and I'm about as burned out on it as you can get. I've been trying some other MMOs but WoW just makes everything else seem really crappy.  Everything in Wow was done so well, on top of that it has such a huge support system setup with websites and shit. I play a game and the movement suck, its clunky and awkward. The maps suck, the Interface is terrible, or whatever.

Its a shame because I like MMOs and I loved play diffrent kinds before WoW but now...I just don't know.

For the Horde!

When I first started playing MMOs I noticed immediately that they were clunkier compared to other games.  Their 3d engines were inefficient, the interfaces were piss-poor, the movement was just wierd.  I think the reason for this is that these games were developed by people who had good technical skills to make these amazing online worlds, but a poor gaming background.

I suppose Blizzard have spoiled us with their polish.  I can't believe we still have games that have right-click context menus on mobs, or an interface that has had things bolted onto it after years of expansions without paying any attention to how the thing plays as a whole for the new player.

It is hard going back to other MMORPGs after WoW.  Everquest 2 feels rigid, vapid and plastic.  Everquest 1 just feels dead and outdated.  EvE online can drag on for days while you just wait for things to happen.

That said, and although it's hard to see it now - I think WoW will have helped MMOs in the long term.  It helped popularize a genre, and establish accessibilty.  In the future we'll have games with the polish and accessibility and good controls of WoW, with the hard-to-find depth and sense of reward in the other games.

But for now we have to pick between shiny gold or rough diamonds.

I'm feeling a bit off today so apologies if some or all of that makes no sense :p

I don't hate WoW, it was made for simpletons tbh and I was one up to now.

I moved on to a real MMO now (EQ2) and I'm having a blast with a great community + better gameplay.

Even if it's older :P

I'm grateful to WoW cause it introduced me to MMORPG genre but it wasn't enough for me and real life mates we played with.

The community of WoW is lacking, the fundamentals are flawed & the company supporting it is not the best I've encountered with in terms of client support.

I just hope the people that define WoW right now (epic hornies / 10 year oldish players / elitists) stay in WoW and don't ruin upcoming games like WAR or AOC even If I'm probably not playing either.

It's success lies within one thing, laziness + simplicity. Time sinks > coop work and time sinks = better items, thus better status.

I know at least 10 persons that have no idea about RPGs or don't even know the name of the boss that got their T6 legs from...True story.  :(

I'm so glad I quit playing this game. It's filled with nothing but spoiled kids and elitist idiots.

"In EVE, no one gives a damn about a fair fight." - chafin

It is true, most other games take patience and a bit of adaptability to play and enjoy.  If WOW has caused those skills in you to atrophy then you're pretty much stuck. Go give LotRo a try, probably only other game out there designed with the WOW gamer in mind.

i know what you mean man, as much as i hate WoW it is, indeed, the most well develpoed mmo out right now.

the only problem is that WoW began the dark ages of MMOs. (if yall dont know the dark ages was a 500 year period where advancement of any type halted and in some cases backtracked. )

since the announcement of World of Warcraft, all developers have been trying to clone the game with an original world and races. and like everything, you cant beat the original, so all are pretty crappy compared to WoW.

it is only as of recent that developers realize that WoW is losing as many fans as it's gaining and are straying from the boring concepts and lack of innovative concepts that represent WoW. ie. Age of Conan, Darkfall, The Chronicles of Spellborn.

so keep your hopes up!

i have age of conan collectors edition preordered cause i believe 100% that it's gonna revolutionize the MMO industry. go to gametrailers.com and look at the dungeon crawl, mounted combat, character creation, and most all the february movies. you wont be disappointed.

I have played EQ1 and EQ2, and they suck beyond belief compared to WoW! Your opinion is not backed at all, show me the players! The players have spoken, 10 million strong we shout you down! WoW rules them all!

Eq is dead, death penalties, no low level groups, melee gimped, don't bother playing.
