Okay, I bought up Prophecies (GoTY Edition) and so far I've been having a blast. I've made 3 characters already, and I enjoy them often (on days I have off from work). The thing is, I've seen to hit a bit of a road block on them. I can't seem to come up with a build that works fully on them.

Ranger/Necromancer - 12 -Ranged damage, mostly using ranger skills (9 marks, some expertise, some floating)

Mesmer/Necromancer - 8 - Going more of the cursing attack style, damage over time along with energy draining. (Mostly Mesmer points)

Elementalist/Monk - 14 - High damage, good area effect, with some self preservation abilities and resurrection for my henchies. (9 Fire magic, 5-7 energy storage, some floaters) (This build doesn't have to be fire, I'm mostly just trying for ranged AoE attacks, and fire seems to offer the best that I've found. I'll gladly use air/earth/water builds as long as they have some form of viable area effect attacks, and some way to live through being the only one left alive)

I'm not sure if it's because I'm lacking damage on them, or if I'm exploring too fast in content, but I've been having to run with full groups of henchies (I play when most US people sleep) and still usually have deaths. I've been up to date on my damage I think, so I can only think that maybe it's the builds I'm trying to use, or the fact I'm using henchies instead of real people (the healer always always gets whacked and killed first, even with 2 warriors and me taking the initial hits). Other notes, R/N uses Poisonous bow, and the casters use the +15energy necro staff (GoTY Edition bonuses).

Anyways, any help with build suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Edit: As for now, I'm mostly looking for PvE builds, but future PvP would also be helpful.

KEAS players are often individuals who like to feel immersed in a virtual worlds and see themselves as a great villain or crusader within that world. They seek out challenges against other players, but they are going to find all the areas of that world. They'll often know about the best hiding places and ambush points

I'd give you some suggestions on builds, but it's hard to get a good steady build before having any character to 20.. But since you're in Prophecies, maybe you should look around for some skill quests you might have passed up, so you can unlock more skills and get experience in the process... and head back to the missions when you're higher level.

I've done that, and my Ranger/Necro and Ele/Monk are both up to around the Lion's Arch area, running into level 13-16 packs of mobs. I'm find it hard to progress further, and grinding the old content I've been in is a saddening thought.

I've looked at that, and the problem is I have yet to find a build on there that fits my play style and only uses Prophecies. The builds there mostly use Nightfall and Factions skills.

Taking in consideration the low level of your characters putting together decent builds may prove tricky as you don't have access to neither Elite skills nor the better ones of the usual skills. At the lower level your characters is on the builds work, it's only when you reach the later areas that how good your build is starts getting truly important. It's also quite hard to tell you of a build as I don't know what skills you've got access to. I would suggest you to just take contact with me in game and I'll do my best to help you out and see if your builds are good.

Later on into the game you should check out PvXWiki for builds. Remember that the builds from PvX don't need to be exact copies, you can take inspiration and configure them to your own personal liking and skill choice.

I was having the exact same issue. I was up to Lion's Gate and the missions and surrounding quest were just getting me killed. Even when I traveled to Bergen Hot Springs and trying to defeat the dead, I was really having a problem. The henchmen were too low to help at any serious encounter. Once I picked up a bit higher henchmen in Bergen Hot Springs that helped a bit, but I found that once I did the Eyes of the North expansion, I was able to pick up a couple of heroes. I jumped from level 14 to 19 in just over 3 days of casual play. That proved to be just enough of a push to get me over the road block.

Getting to Fisherman's Haven, You get quest for Fire Atunement and that gave me a boost in energy recovery too. My El / Mo is running much better now. I really found that Lion's Arch was a real turning point in my play style as well. I had to contend with larger and badder mobs. Trying not to pull too many mob groups on me was a learning curve. The Black Curtain, Tears of the Fallen and Kessex Peak are swarming with dead, and some of them can get real hairy. I also ran into groups that were traveling larger areas of the map for the first time. While engaged in battle with one group, a second group would come wandering into range and start attacking. That is a big suprise when you're not expecting it. I found that pulling back when I could to get out of range of the second group would help at times as long as the henchmen didn't go running after something trying to escape, but don't get me started with those problems.

Good Luck to You. I know how it feels, and with a little persistance, it all works out good !

"Next time i log in SWG ill probably see elves and druids"

the only build i can help you with is the ranger as i am more familiar with that profession.

this is only a tip and sugestion that fits my playstyle.

max out marksmanship (with  a superior rune + the mask that gives +1) to get it to 16

expertise at 10 and wilderness the rest you can aford (if you are secondary monk put the 1-4 remaining points on protection)

"whirling defense" and "troll unguent " and "rebirth" are the 3 skills i never go without.

the elite you should get is "barrage"

the other 4 can be some interupts mixed with armour penetration attacks (or +x damage from the marksmanship skills) you could also put spirits if you need them.

if you have eye of the north expansion, i would get some norn skills like "i am the strongest" that adds +x damage for the next 6 attacks and/or dwarven skills like  "light of deldrimor" for treasures in dungeons

so in resume

Barrage (your main attack that does + dmg up to 6 different foes and with expertise 10 it only costs you 3 energy)

Troll unguent (+7 life regen for 13 seconds with 10 seconds cooldown "you do the math")

rebirth (you are a ranger your job is not to rez people unles you are the only survivor in which case energy should not be as big as an issue as to rez the monk away from agrozone.)

whirling defence (great for dodging/blocking anything, use it when you are playing secondary tank or you need to hold 1 enemy while the others take care of the main target, also works great in pvp against wariors and other rangers)

Any interrupt (stop those elementalist nasty attacks either in pvp or pve)

then you have 3 slots left to put wtv you want in my case i put  (if i remain with prophecies skills)

+dmg armour penetration

another interupt

and any spirit or trap that i think might be usefull for the mission in question

in EOTN ill use light of deldrimore, i am the strongest and slothshot (from nightfall)

NOTE: do not use any preparation skills as barrage will end them
