A good game needs no defending. A bad game needs no forums.

It seems like most of the new MMORPG's being designed have adopted the WOW/Warhammer cartoonish, exaggerated graphics style.

Kills immersion for me and many others.  I don't want to play in a cartoon world.

WOW's popularity is no reason for dev's to mimic everything in WOW.  Could it not occur to some people that WOW is a success NOT because it's such a good game, but because it is not as bad as the others out there?

LOTRo copied the interface of WoW but replaced the graphics with very hardware demanding versions, not cartoonish at all.  VG goes way out to avoid any trace of WoW influence.  Tabula Rasa has its own style of graphics, big blocks but nothing cartoonish.  Hellgate London goes basically FPS style, with an added option of 3rd person, but the camera is generally differently aligned.  AoC has very dark and wild feeling, something totally missing in WoW.

I wonder why you think every other game is cartoonish.  I do not think there is another major league game that has similar graphics style to WoW, apart from WAR.

Why So Serious?

There's Everquest 2, Vanguard, Age of Conan, D&D Online, Horizons, Lord of the Rings Online, Star Wars Galaxies, ... do I need to go on?    Seriously..whats the deal? There's plenty for you? Or are you just angry they all suck or aren't out yet?  Or does it just chafe your butt that one game you want to play is sticking to what its IP calls for it to look like?   I fail to see any reason to complain considering the number of games that use a realistic / boring / humourless approach for an art style is actually higher than the WoW / WAR colorful approach.

Please Refer to Doom Cat with all conspiracies & evil corporation complaints. He'll give you the simple explination of..WE"RE ALL DOOMED!

I"m thinking of the big new games coming out.  Some well known, some not.  I'm just seeing more and more cartoonish graphics.

No need for games to have computer-intensive graphics, but I think some of the new ones ought to give us something like DAOC+ graphics.  A warhammer ought to look like a warhammer and not some 300 pound weight on a stick that couldn't possibly support such a mass.

Big new games coming out?  I do not know which one falls into your definition.  I understand that CoS and AoC have pretty unique graphics style, which is far from the WoWish style you are talking about.  WAR has its own style all along, as part of its IP.  WAR is somewhat cartoonish but WAR pre-dates WoW.  So you cannot blame WAR as a copycat.  Aion?  The Korean products have their own style so there is no question about them copying WoW.

Which other new game coming up you have in mind?

Does it really matter and why do you need a list.  The point is many new MMORPG's are copying WOW elements and one of those elements is exaggerated cartoonish graphics.

WAR is the big one (yes, I know Warhammer came up with the exaggerated figures first).  Another, I saw is Citadel of Sorcery.  Then there is the "secret" new Blizzard MMORPG in development, and while no screenshots are publicly available, what do you want to bet "cartoonish" will be a good discription.

And then you have all the Korean Anime-style games and the ones with the big-eyed cutsey midget-like characters.

Everything deserves its niche, of course, but I just hope that WOW"s huge success doesn't set undesired trends.  A lot of folks play WOW, but a lot are looking for something new.  It would help the latter group if that "something new" wasn't too WOW-like, at least not in the undesirable features.

Since I am not sure what your meaning by many, I think I need to see a list of what YOU consider to be cartoony.
