in game informer magazine there is an article about what if there was only one console? i think this would be a good idea. then this way all developers would have to make there games for this one console and pc. everyone would be able to play all the games they want.there will be no restrictions to what games you get. you wont have to spend more money buying all the systems to get all the games. why not? yes i know with competition these days in companies this would never happen. just talking hypothetical here. |

would it be considered a monopoly if there was just 1 console?? or no because theres multiple companies contributing? Either way, it would be a good idea. |

I don't see how having only one console is going to benefit the industry. Developing and producing a game console is very, very expensive and the majority of profits come from software. If they don't have to, they're not going to, and with no competition, they don't have to develop a new console |

Originally posted by GameloadingI agree with Gameloading on this one. Some years back it came close to a one console system. Playstation was very dominant. Console are made to play software(games). The success of a console system is sole dependent upon 3rd party software. If you could get all the software companies to agree with the competition I could see a one console system. But that is highly unlikely to happen. Besides who wants a detriment to new and creative software? |

if there was just 1 console to play all games, it would be one huge machine. how much do you think this would really cost though? who cares about if it costed the same, coz that is very unlikely, and companies would loose out and go bust. only the big ones would survive, and even then there would be riots over who is the better one, who makes more games, who makes what games etc. BUT, if, in the future, they do manage to make a console that is fit, and well powered for the task, then it would be a very good idea. Still, very very unlikely to happen It's just like having a whole TV channel just for the ads so they don't get in the way of the shows |

Originally posted by andie123It would cost exactly the same as a normal console assuming lack of competition doesn't lead to inflated pricing. The OP is not talking about creating a console that can play all types of formats (blu-ray, dvd, cd, etc.), but just one console without any competition. For example, just having the playstation 3 and no xbox 360 or wii. All the game developers would make games for the PS3 since there is no other option.

yeah but they can decide to be a little SOB.. and sell it for an extremely high price... then there is only one.. so you have to take the console or go home and play with one imaginary console from your mind. |
