Yeah, not so may good MMOs out there right now. Most will let you believe you are some kind of hero, even if you are retarded. Earthrise will not let you think you are a here, you have to own it : ) |

Always sounds good, but then the hardcore guilds come along and dominate you. Then it all comes full circle as to why games don't incorporate it into MMOs where gear is your strength. |

Full PVP looting?! Well that's one way to ensure that this game won't make any amount of worthwhile money. For all the retro sadomastic fetishists that like being put in their place by their entertainment...have fun I'm sure you'll enjoy getting ganked and taken back to square one over and over and over again. Oh and quit cutting. |

I hope they make it only on certain servers for their own sake, otherwise they'll be kicking themselves after it has a population of maybe shadowbane. |

Very glad to see at least one game nowadays taking this step. Asherons Call PvP server was my favorite gaming experience precisely because of the risks I faced. Now I know for many it's too "hardcore" and such, so I'd be happy even if they just make one server like this. It'd be better than the long cold winter some of us have had to face in terms of an MMO that suits our style. And no, I wasn't one of those uber high levels who simply got his jollies killing every level 1 that I came across, as much as I know that's a popular stereotype of those who enjoy hardcore PvP. |

As far as I've seen from their info on PvP, yes, you can attack anyone, anywhere, but you will be subject to punishment if you do it in certain areas.
The best thing to compare this to would probably be EVE Online. In fact...a lot of this game can be compared to EVE. Kind of like EVE in a new setting. Which is a good thing! I'll be keeping an eye on this one. |

You think that because you usually are the owned and not the owner :) Sorry. Seriously, some people actually like a little competition. You don't like it, it's okay. Just don't assume everyone is like you :) --- |

Originally posted by admiralnlson I highlighted this comment to show you why your reasoning is correct. You stated some people which is the very small amount of people that will enjoy this. The consensus is that most people will not enjoy this type of PvP. If you don't believe me just look at some of the major games out there such as WoW, Lotro, and EQ2. They have PVP in moderations for a reason. Its almost the same with new games coming out. No one really enjoys playing a game were the restart button is your target. It sounds great in your mind, but on paper it never really works out well. Also from what I understand, you will only be able to pvp in certain area's, not everywhere as the OP stated. Either way, this game doesn't look like the next best thing. |

I was excited about this game until I read this topic. Another sci-fi MMO I will most likely have to pass on. I like PvP, don't get me wrong, and I can be competative, but this isn't what I look for in a game that requires me to dish out money each month. I know for a fact that thousands upon thousands of people feel, and will feel, this way. Full-PvP looting is terrible IMO, and it doesn't matter if there are consequences or not. People will still do it and you will still lose gear. I see a lot of community complaints heading towards the developers in the future, and another game that will fall to it's knees. |

Originally posted by Joey2cool Errr, just a quick question. If you're so much against Full Looting, why the heck do you play EVE??? I mean, EVE has basically full looting (all right, some of the items are destroyed when you lose your ship, but for the one losing the ship, that hardly matters, does it?). |

From what I understand PvP is limited to designated areas. Players that engage in PvP outside of these areas will be seen as criminals by the police NPC of the game; they will be restricted from entering some PvE areas based on their characters fame since the police-NPC will be hunting them down. Regarding the full looting - Everyone has the option to buy insurance for their items, plus build robots or higher guards that will protect the say merchants or socially elite players in these areas. Where PvP is most effective is in Guild made Cities/or Outpost because they will be the ones controlling the PvP area resources. And since crafting is a major factor in ER there will be some interesting interaction by the players, and not necessarily combative PvP…PvP does extend beyond the PKing you know. I for one who has played most of my MMO life as a "carebare" am looking forward to ER's fresh concept. I’m not shy to PvP and it has never been a major factor in my gaming style yet I want to see how ER will make this work. **Please correct me if I’m wrong about the details because I am still reading-up ER’s information. |

Mack: SOME PEOPLE also love to eat rotten meat, SOME people believe in buddah SOME people believe in the profit mohammad. The fact that you say SOME PEOPLE, being a very small amount in your definition, would enjoy this game. Which is false, please stop trying to say THE ONLY WAY TO PLAY IS CAREBEAR and try to make an approach that is all i ever hear from carebears and acta bit more "Mature" and say SUPER have fun with it but im not gonna put my money into something that has a competative edge. |

Masthead has also said PvE has its place, and while PvP is certainly a main focus, players can only advance their characters through PvE. Gankers and griefers can't level up by ganking you. Also you can insure your gear, so it's only "full loot" if you forget, or choose not, to insure certain (or all) parts of your gear. Different zones have different "security" levels. Adventuring in a low-security zone puts you at high-risk for PvP, and vice-versa. Solo players will likely stick to high-security areas quite a bit, which Masthead has said is doable but you will advance slower as a result. |

My MMO experience started with Asheron's Call, which was probably a great game. I never really knew because i had no idea what was going on and basically just farmed creeps to try and catch my friends in levels. The first MMO that ever took over my life was WoW. It was easy, it was fun, and it was a universe i already knew inside and out. I've since quit WoW and I am hoping for something Different. A full looting, open pvp game with consequences sounds amazing... As long as there is no gear grind to then lose the items. If good items are easily replaceble, which it sounds like they are by the info they gave out about their Crafting then it should be fun. To the people who are going to tell me to try Eve, i don't want to be a space ship. I'm done rambling.
