"We''re not making a game for Trekkies" Daron Stinnett, Perpetual Entertainment

With economies around the globe tanking and the best view is it will be 3 or 4 years before we see a turn around in the economy, I don't see many people shelling out cash for machines to run this game.  Why spend $2,500+ on a machine to run AoC when any $500 machine on the market will be able to play WoW or many of the other new MMOGs coming down the pipe?  Where you might see the bigger AoC crowd is on the XBox 360 since they can play AoC on a $400 machine.    I don't see the PC version of this game doing very well for the obvious reasons posted by many in this thread.

It would ruin the game if they went and said it ONLY supported High resolution details, but thankfully they're clever enough to not do so.. Do no, I'd say I'm pretty sure most people will be able to play this game, not all as beautiful, but for some, the looks aint all, especially not for me. Gameplay > Looks :)

It all depends on what each one individually perceives as an acceptable level of graphics quality and how far is willing to go so as to achieve it. We are talking about adults here, in an mature targeted MMO, by the way.

If people find the graphics unacceptable, they will have the choice to remain to their current MMO and continue enjoying it. The difference with the advent of the new crop of MMOs will be the choice given, choice that is currently not present.

If this game fails it won't be due to the graphics. It will be due to the core gameplay not being as fun as it should have been in theory. No game with a solid gameplay died due to a bloated graphics engine. If that was the case, SWG (the early days) would not be as loved as it is, even today.

The game looks awesome one so many levels, but I honestly think that it won't get tons of success simply because people won't be able to run it.

Thoughts?

Agreed.

But recently my worries were dispelled when i seen new AOC presentation video.

Gaute showed low quality gameplay, that really looked like it could run on everyones PC , and he said that even 4 year old rigs ( taken that 4 years ago they were decent ) could run this game.

There are only two things that are able to make this game fail

1) The lack of real content

2) The community

I couldn't disagree with you more.  The higher the rating, M or Adult Only, the more you can GUARANTEE young teens will seek out and play the game.  GTA is all the proof you need of this.  AoC will be dominated by young teens for 2 reasons, breasts and gore.  You can bet on it because Funcom is going to laugh all the way to the bank about it while the "mature fans" and bitching because it is BNet Kiddie Ville Gone Wild like never seen before in gaming.

I agree, these adults are in denial when they speak of an 'mmo purely for adults' because it simply doesn't exist, The sad thing is the only weapon they have against games such as WAR is that they always say 'Let WAR have the kids, mature people will play conan'

All i can say to such people is Grow up, I am 17 and have a PC worth $3000, therefore your argument is wrong.

Account has been stolen, why would someone want to steal my account?
