Currently Playing: EVE online
Played: WoW and Lineage 2

I new about MMO's when I worked at CompUSA in 1999 but i never played games like that. Then i was introduced into diablo 2 and subsequently almost failed out of college, nonetheless. Diablo 2 xpac delivered.

But I always join games late so I never knew of their hype. But then again, to me hype = marketing ploy.

The more hype, the more money you have budgeted for marketing. Which I guess would mean by default they are better than non-hyped games.

CoH, WoW and Planetside all did.

Although to be fair the hype I was listening to was from my friends not the press.

Battlefield 2 and Quake Wars pretty much lived up to the sales pitch too. Also Joint Ops.

I find a good amount of games do, but a lot more don't.   Franchises are pretty easy since everyone konws the gametype, it's then just a question of quality and value for money.

Doom definitely did. And then some.

The classics did. EQ, AC, even DAoC. Since then? Not even close.

We are recruiting.

I've been playing MMOGs since EQ and QUICKLY learned to not buy into all the hype and above all, not to get into my head all these crazy and wild expectations. Since doing that, every single game I've looked forward to has met my expectations. But I am far more laid back in these matters then some folks. For me, if a game releases with 10% of it's promised features pushed post-release (ala SWG) I don't go off the handle and quit until they come out. I enjoy what the game does have, and wait patiently for that new stuff, knowing full well that it'll be better then it would have if it came out when the game did.

Beyond that, I try and stay true to my typical sig. (Though this sites pathetic 100 character limit, won't let me keep it here too. :/)

Your expectations, gamers, are a house of cards built on a foundation of sand, a cozy ranch house of dreams built on top of a feature list posted on the Internet and some screenshots taken at “Like hell your video card can run this” settings.
