Lol at WoW. I would like to see this chart a few months after the new expansion comes out. |

the chart on wow is insane.... it doesn't even looked like it has peaked, rising so quickly..... it trully has become more than a mmorpg. It should be called something else a genre in it's own right now. And if blizzard keeps making new special "language packs" it'll be interesting how far blizzard can go, they sure have the money to do it all now, hence the funky commercials they also had with old and well known actors.
The upcoming mmorpgs won't even dent wow really, they are all a niche, no offense, even though i'm looking forward to AoC (sorta, with all the grim news from beta i'm beginning to lose hope), also you should consider the rather special part here, i know it will sound stupid in many people's head here but WoW attract alot of women aswell and you can also see it has a sense of trendsetting in the game now and certain "items" are more of a luxury and "LOOK AT MEE!", Phoenix mount being the ultimate attention object, along with flashy armor. Just a shame blizzard delayed thier expac so much, they talked about an expac once a year but it now looks more like once every 2nd year, which isn't a bad sign just means they still care for high quality and finished product.
But i think they should make another chart without WoW on it, kinda hard to see the numbers on the others with the sub chart, so a 2nd more detailed for the lower ones would have been nice. =) |

I find it interesting that LOTRO has the exact same game mechanics as WoW and plays just the same, and yet Eve online has a bigger population than it. |

How depressing. I mean, not that WOW isnt totally bollocks, but its certainly not such a great MMO to deserve this. I really hope someday WOW goes back to the oblivion it should. >< |

Only a small number of games actually release their subscription numbers. Only a small number of developers are publicly held companies who even release their financial data. This means that all of the games that don't release either, he's gathering data from... "anonymous sources" and "educated guesses".
p.s. If this information was so easy to obtain in ANY accurate fashion, do you really think NPD would be charging 35 thousand dollars a year for their new service...

That chart seems fine to me if you include the version without WoW in it that way everything isn't bunched together at the bottom. |
