We Lost

I played EQ for 4yrs give or take and EQ2 for 2yrs. I think SOE is overdoing it's expansions for these two titles.

The concern is what will players do with 20+ expansions later? Do you have a computer issue and need to reformat then don't install the game ever again because of the gigantic expansion downloads or installs or do you wait 3days to get everything downloaded to play again.

It just seems a little odd to me out of all the MMO releases SOE decides to keep milking it's titles with expansion after expansion.

When will it ever end? After the 50th expansion. Boy I am glad I don't play anymore because SOE has such a terrible downloader for updates.

EQ is on a once a year expansion cycle now and if you purchase the retail box you get the new expansion and everything prior to that on your dvd to install, not sure what you're complaining about.  You can get all 12-13 expansions for like 39 bucks, show me a better deal for that much content.

I also don't get the complaint on the patcher.  Comparing it to others, it's the easiest I've used.  They also have a station launcher in beta that will allow you to download games/patches in the background of all their games from one location.  It's nice but seems slower to me but it's still in beta.

The enemy is so dumb! They believe that WE are the enemy! - A famous orc commander.

IF I would still play...

I would want MORE expansions, not less.

I brought this up cause I was at ebgames recently and they had no EQ boxes and I checked bestbuy also. So the majority do not have the box set which is why I was saying how ridiculous it is to download all these for people who can't find it. Digital download being the most popular now. I think that to many expansions is overkill if expansions truely made the game better then why is WOW still strong with 10 million subscribers?

Think its nice time between the expansions. That's one of EQ1+EQ2's biggest plus. Very much content.

Maybe suggest to them to make the expansion content optimal download, and let you choose what to download in the patcher.

I agree that SOE is overdoing it with their expansions (and adventure packs). But I don't think the issue is really too much content, or too many expansions.

It more feels like that they just put quantity over quality to milk customers, and in the end most of the players leave because of bad quality.

Most of my friends and me never quit EQ for any quality-oriented point.

We have a Hardcore vs Casual point, especially a raiders vs non-raiders point, which SOE nevers understood.

They could have made raid-free servers with all raid loot on a LDoN merchant, and we would all still playing...but then maybe the raiders would have???  No idea.  I don't try to understand raiders, understanding myself, and the casuals, is enough for me.  Can't care less what happen on a raiding level.  But I can say that raiding prospers and is extremely lively in CoH/CoV even if raiders get no special reward for it.  The ambiance in raids is also great...I almost want to go raid...almost...guess old wounds take time to heal.

WOWs popularity is not because of lack of expansions

WOW is going to face similar issues soon for 1 reason alone:

every WOW expansion so far, WOW raises the level cap

EQ1,

8 years later with 14 expansions, has raised their level to 80 from 50

WOW,

4 years later with 2 expansions (including lichking), has raised their level to 80 from 60

wont get any better when WOW is 8 years old and the level cap is 100+

expansions are a lesser evil when compared to  *levels needed*  for new players

My EQ file is less than 7 gigs, with everything.

Star Wars Battelfront 2, for instance, takes up 3.5 gigs.

Oblivion has mod files for it, that take up over 1.7 gigabytes.

Is your hard drive so small that you can't handle 7 gigabytes for a single game?
