Fine by me.  Turbine should return the favor and block all Chinese IP addresses from their servers.  Ditto for every third-world Asian country that shields gold farmers from legal prosecution.

You can be legally prosecuted for farming gold in an MMORPG?

Not for farming, but if they can prove that you sold their property (gold) for financial gain, then yes, you can.

He didn't write "selling", he wrote FARMING.

The only thing governments are worried about right now is missing out on the taxes. Farming is not "illegal", its against most EULA's but thats something entirely different and no, you are not going to get prosecuted for it if you do it, the company may ban your account and thats about it.

Now show me where in US / EU law it says buying or selling of virtual property (gold) for financial gain is illegal and you can be prosecuted by law. (I'm not talking about "maybes", "someday over the rainbow" or "you could if", I'm talking about right now legislation.)

AND DID I NOT SAY      "NOT FOR FARMING"   ?    I COULDA SWORE I DID.

SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS, BUT MAYBE THIS TIME YOU WILL READ AND COMPREHEND. ANY MORON KNOWS THAT FARMING IS NOT ILLEGAL RICHARD.

LMAO

EDIT

Don't know what happened to my other post, MMORPG.com ate it,  since I am a moron we can chalk it up to more of my stupidity.

Anyway, you shouldn't apologize for things you are not really sorry for. Yes, I misread your post (see thats what an adult does, they admit when they make a mistake)

No, it doesn't matter if you said farming, selling, buying or whatever. Here on the planet earth, in no country is it illegal to do anything with virtual property. Buy it, sell it, farm it, whatever. You can do whatever you like with no fear of legal prosecution at all in any country. It is against EULA and thats it. Find me anything that says otherwise or an example of anyone prosecuted for it and you will get a virtual cookie.

The only thing any government is worried about is the missed sales tax.

Maybe, just maybe you might understand my point, I'm not holding my breath (nor typing in caps)

So that makes this statement incorrect:

Not for farming, but if they can prove that you sold their property (gold) for financial gain, then yes, you can.

One other thing, try decaf....its just as tasty as the real thing.

How can you legally prosecute gold farmers?  They're not breaking any laws.

Sick of the crap on the radio? Try ETN.fm or party107.com

China's a big market, but don't forget about the rest of the world.  China regulates how much time you can  actually be online.  I think what should worry Turbine Devs more though is the new MMO's on the horizon, namely Warhammer and Conan.  I think LotRo will have some serious competition from the WoW expansion as well.  I know I'll play WoW again for that.

"We use to have some games that required an attention span in the US, EQ1 for an example but it seems the mindset of what is fun in the US and in asian countries is different. Sadly I feel the way they do. Console games are so boringly easy as well now in the US that do not offer any challenge nor do they make you think. The asians purposely ship the easy instant gratification games to the US and not the more difficult ones that require some thinking and time. Sad really."

Ohhhh my lord, please give me a break with this stuff.  I'm so tired of the romanticization of all-things Asian and the opposite of all-things western.

As for China, their subscriber numbers are large for some games (WoW, obviously), but the actual revenue is a fraction per player.  As most companies have found, the sheer numbers in the Chinese market do not remotely make it an equivalent source of revenue, nor will it be for a very, very long time, likely not in our lifetimes in many sectors.  Now, in future MMORPGs where subscribership numbers will be increasingly important in PR and sales strategies ("Come play our game, where you'll see actual live players in the low-level areas!"), something like this could have an impact, but that's a dynamic that's only just beginning.

True ...it may be a fraction...but, look at it this way

Europe-2 million
US-2.5 million
Asia-5.5 million"

Either a customer who may not renew next month or customers who plays EVERYDAY due to inexpensive costs....

Lets also take into account...the US market for WoW decreased the last quarter...but, Asian markets grew...

I think my "Asian" market would be a huge target!

Food for thought

I am an avid LOTRO hater, so, I am biased.  ...please take my word with a grain of salt.

They are just starting in the Asian market.  Japan is the only one that is currently operating any live servers, and just 2 at that.

Not exactly something that would be a make or break situation.  They are spending more time for the upcoming launch in Korea though, as that has a lot more potential.  (Read the link below for more info).

LoTRo's success will be made or lost with it's EU and NA popularity; which seems to be doing quite nicely from the surge of the new pricing structure.  I've been noticing the symbol that comes up when the server is under a lot of load come up more frequently... and the amount of new characters running around in the starter areas bears that out as well.

Allright I've been reading this off and on as just a casual browser to this board but I felt I had to sign up to counter this.

On the boards during Openedge's time I saw Openedge try to help member after member on the boards that ran into technical issues.

If you're going to continue trying that route you're going to have to balance this with what positive things Openedge has done too.

No I don't know Openedge except for the crusade in the tech forums Openedge led, me, my brother, and others participated in during the open beta and early days after the launch of the game.

May I ask what have you done on the LOTRO boards to match what Openedge did in the time posted?  I think criticism can be had by someone who helped others.

Plus some find this very interesting news.

And sorry Openedge if I hijacked the thread but I felt a counter had to be made against Dragonace.

I'll let his own quote stand for itself.  If you take issue what he himself has stated... guess you'll have to talk to him about that.  I also can't speak for his actions on other forums... that's great if he's been a help on those forums.  I don't think you'll get the same praises for him on this board.
