After reading the "Release date..." thread from 2004, I thought it would have been interesting to see a poll of how many people thought it was actually coming out within the next year or two. Its too late for that now, but would be interested in seeing how a similar poll would turn out today. Just to clarify, this is asking how long from today you think it will be; not what you thought back in 2004.

Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware "Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product." |

Originally posted by ghoul31 Wasn't the first, Mythic tossed Imperator when they got the WAR IP, Microsoft killed off a couple of MMO's in mid development, and UO 2 had a couple of incarnations that were stopped. Sure, not right before release, but then again, I think GandH was really far from finished.

I think it would be best for them to at least start beta testing this year, with a release sometime towards the end of 08, beginning of 09. Otherwise I dont see anything coming out of this project, ever. It already has had a somewhat lengthy development time with numerous delays so I think they are on shaky grounds now, financially, support-wise, credibility-wise Be it as it may, I still hope that this game will see the light of day. But again, if nothing happens within the next couple of months, they should probably bin the whole thing and do something productive with their lives.

Lets face it, MMOs today are turning into single player console games with a chat box included. |

To bad the vapor people are so wrong on this one. its not going to be funny, but i think there just here to mess with us and to cause trouble just because they know they cant be flamed because mmorpg mods just let them say what they want. Any one thta does flame them gets banned. But what ever there wrong and they know it. |

Considering that followers of this game have made definite predictions about release and beta dates every year and they have all been wrong every time each year. And considering the developers of this game have made definite announcements about release and beta every year and they have been wrong every time each year. It really is quite pointless to try to make an accurate prediction for release because we have no real information about the true status of this games development because of the relatively very limited amount released. (we can safely ignore the promises of the developers because they have constantly failed to meet there beta and release dates every time each year) (we can safely ignore the assurances of the supporters because they have constantly failed to make accurate beta and release date predictions every time each year) The only way we can see what stage of development this game has reached is when the developers start showing us by starting open beta or doing any of the normal public relation events that other MMO developers do before beta and release. So the only way we can make an informed and accurate prediction about release, is when Darkfall enters open beta and starts showing to the community and the media all the features and content they have been talking about for years implemented in there game. Until Darkfall starts beta we can be certain that it is still at least 6 months to a year from release (but probably a lot more considering the games development history.) If the developers do not announce and start beta in the first half of this year then we can say with some certainty that Darkfall will not release in 2008, considering that the average beta period for most MMO’s is around 6 months from start to release. |

Then we all can agree that 2008 would be a great year to play Darkfall. And remember, all MMOs are automaticly not released, the hard part is make them first. I just get the feeling some people forget that part sometimes. They want games to be released. Same as some whine about AoC now when it got delayed. |

He the funny thing is i'm not making a guess. I'm making a facted on beta starting this year. Release who knows depends on how beta goes. No they never gave us dates before only 2 official. Rest were internal dates and they don't mean anything. |

The logical view: It WILL get released to get their money back, at least. Bigger companies can afford to cancel development of games (auto assault etc.) But this company can't afford to cancel the game's release, it'd break them. The long development time is only normal, the only way we'll ever see a serious mmorpg. *Flashback: Fury, back previews during beta, but it got released didn't it...* And you can quote me on THAT! ;) You know it, the best way to realize your dreams is waking up and start moving, never lose hope and always keep up. |
