Outside combat in this game, makes NGE (SWG) look good. Character creation is poor. Character animation are poor. The run animation makes your male character run like a woman. Towns are small and most of them are cloned and look the same. Fun to explore the map now? No. Skill system is nothing special. Not much to say about it. UI sucks. Chat system sucks. No day to night cycle to make the game more alive. You can't do fishing. You can't even jump like in normal games or take a swim. Or sit down, just for some seconds. Game was made having focus on ships and everything around that. So the avatar world sucks a lot. Good or bad? I say bad move. Give us both, then work hard on both. You can't explore the world. No going for a gold hunt or anything like that. NPC's do same thing in the towns and makes the game look silly. ... |

It is all vaporware until I see it go live! |
Originally posted by Bafucin Sort of a useless post really. If you are going to hack on a feature/aspect of the game, you need to say why it is deficient. Saying it sucks is a total waste of time. You did explain your reasoning in some cases, just should have extended it to the rest of your post.

Only Pirates of Boring Sea can be a game based on sea where you cant swim, explore or do anything related to freedom (which the feeling of sealing would appeal), you just forgot to say that its all the same because its all intanced, you cant even enter in your ship, you are teleported to this (would be that another dimension? May the loss of time experienced between speaking with this man on the port and be on a full ship on the sea is somehow because of alien abduction ? May, in this very realistic game, the ghost ship be an UFO? May the parrot on the shoulder, who never fall, be an alien? that would explain the funny movements of the characteres and they all do the same because they are under some kind of trance) |

While on the subject...On Eve I cant even see my character or jump in a space suit and float in space and no emotes! Is that normal for game of the year?

Wanna compare the size of EvE with the size of Pirates of the Boring Sea? Althought you couldnt go to the planet, you could go on thousand of stars, you could put your ship and go... the world (universe, in this case) was huge. Plenty of things to explore to make you feel free. The very nature of the game was a space explorer game. Its unrealistic but there is an explanation on the lore for why you cant leave the ship. You buy it because the game is very complex, skill based and LARGE as hell!!! Pirates of the Boring sea is very tiny game, totally instanced and it was suppose to be realistic... there is nothing to explore, nothing new and the the weight of boredom appoints to the fact that you cant do all things who show you freedom. EvE would, at the worst, hide this failure in the middle of a very complex and huge game... why would you bother to go to planets when you have so much to do? You could build space stations on places never visited, for godsake!!! |

Originally posted by Domenicus I love EVE, but the reality is that EVE is huge because the resources to create each "system" are tiny when compared to a planet-based game, and tbh each system is more or less the same -- sure the "celestial objects" are in different locations, but the background is one postcard scenery and everything else is just a few objects in 3d space. Not hard to do. Comparing that to the kind of resources required to recreate the Caribbean is silly, imo. |

OH crap this system has 14 astroid belts and 2 planets, essentially its all the same with "different" skins. If you mean complex skill system you must talk about taking a year to fly a certain ship by training offline. Or do you mean complex like you'd be stupid not to learn learning skills first. Eve skill system means you'll never catch up to anyone whos been training for a couple years before you, quite unique but not complex at all. |

See, its the same ´postcard´ as you said, however this fact is hidden because of the sensation of freedom. If you see games like LOTRO, SWG and even WoW you will see that the scenario is much bigger than EvE and PoTB, since there is huge changes on it, not only ´pretend that you are far, far away...´ EvE ´pretend´ to be huge by the things which it brings, mostly the fact you can go to thousands of stars and command your ship to the endless space... And therefore its huge!! PotBS in other hand is a lot smaller than EvE, and do not deliver neither the ´pretend´ sensation of freedom. neither the real freedom of games like SWG, LOTRO or even WoW. Just because its all the same, and there is very very little things to do, instead of PvP (a bad PvP if you ask me) and some interesting buy/sell stuff... On Eve you couldnt see your resources (partially, because you could see asteroids and go to there), but they delivered hundreds of resources, used on thousands of way... PobS has very few resources and you still dont REALLY interact with it. The avatar thing backfired... It hasnt put realism or imersion on the game (the lack of avatar caused some problems of imersion on EvE IMO), at contrary, its so silly that it thumbed down something that, by start wasnt very imersive and good exactly because of its size.
