Originally posted by Slampig I loved SWG before the dark times. But, SWG was a weird animal. If you read the official forums during its height, there was alot of trolling and griping. However, when you played the game; it had one of the best communities out there. Sure, it had its bad apples, but overall I enjoyed playing with other players in that game. Even though it failed, I thought it had great potential. It was just mis-managed by the developers. They spent too much time nerfing, not knowing what direction to take the game, ignoring bugs and practicing bad customer service. The skill set system was great and allowed better character customization. Unfortunately, the nerfs and lack of planning got so bad on the developer's part that the game deterioated into a flavor the month where everyone wanted to be a certain template. SWG vets generally feel betrayed by the game developers and are very vocal about it. If you played the game and got burned you would understand. If you didn't then I'm happy for you. However, I don't think the SWG gripe will go away anytime soon. |

It was rediculous how they fight under water, a fire mage shooting fireballsunderwater how stupid, but whole fight was stupid this was not pvp, this is just plain crazy butten bashing with autolock and unrealistic fights of physics, its maybe fun for wow players but i could not play such a stupid pvp system. But thats there fun they accept that way of playing im ok with that, nobody force me to play wow, there is a big mmo community who wanne have simple gameplay and a small group who want a more challenging game experience. |

Originally posted by nariusseldon Well I normaly use poker as an example for this. Yes you can play on most sites with free chips. However paying for it, putting in some money (even if it is just 1 dollar) just changes the whole game and brings it to an whole other level. It only make it stressing if you are a bad loser. Big difference though is the fact that you actualy lose something with poker, in an online game you only lose some virtual items.

So some people, like me, found the game boring, but, perhaps, all this wow players will found the games I like boring... its all about tastes. About the "insult". Think this is the "marketing" problem, wow, as I remember, is the first mmo I saw announced at Tv, lot of young boys is the first they discovered, and lot of people is the only one or the first one mmorpg. Sure that there are some smart players, sure, but there is also lot of boys that saw the game, or that fathers bought the game cause they dont know what to give for christmas, its a easy game and, with the normal excitment of their age, give wow this "mcdonalds" fame. |

The "go back to WoW" communities are pretty grim, games that attract those sort of teenage jerks are to be avoided. Exclusive elitest knobs. They think they are better than everyone else and seek ways to demonstate this.
I enjoy role play games because of the social diversity I find online that I would not otherwise be exposed to in my daily life. These kinds of communities however, I can afford to miss.

This thread is not dead yet? There is nothing wrong with playing any game really. I'm sure that Blizzard is very happy with the kind of advertisement excibited in this thread. They don't even have to pay for it. Insults just make even the casual people more fanatical about their game and the negative publicity attracts even more curious people. I'm sure the marketing people at Blizzard are happy with the good work all the haters are doing for them. |

Seems to me this is the MMO equivalent of the "Hitler" card. If you have to pull it from the deck, you've lost the debate. |

It sounds elitist to treat a game/music creator this way as the creators WANT it to be popular because it's not just the cha-ching, it's about sharing with the rest of the world. To hide a treasure for only yourself is greedy, as I see it. If a person has to go to a game or music to find uniqueness...guess what, there's nothing unique about that. Sorry, all that is is riding a personal fad favorite until the next one comes along. Uniqueness it the combination of not only what you like at the moment, but who you are, how you feel, the company you keep, and the beliefs you hold dear. |
