This whole..."I played UO Pre-Trammel...I pwn" ...is booty.

I was there with UO like everyone else...I just seem to remember the community as a tolerant bunch...same with the original class of EQ and AC...

Might as well post in the SWG "Vets" forum....please...don't let us go there...I mean, Isn't that dead horse nothing but a pink stain by now?

I loved SWG before the dark times.

But, SWG was a weird animal.  If you read the official forums during its height, there was alot of trolling and griping.  However, when you played the game; it had one of the best communities out there.  Sure, it had its bad apples, but overall I enjoyed playing with other players in that game.

Even though it failed, I thought it had great potential.  It was just mis-managed by the developers.  They spent too much time nerfing, not knowing what direction to take the game, ignoring bugs and practicing bad customer service.  The skill set system was great and allowed better character customization.  Unfortunately, the nerfs and lack of planning got so bad on the developer's part that the game deterioated into a flavor the month where everyone wanted to be a certain template.

SWG vets generally feel betrayed by the game developers and are very vocal about it.  If you played the game and got burned you would understand.  If you didn't then I'm happy for you.  However, I don't think the SWG gripe will go away anytime soon.

Basically, and this is a bit off topic but I don't care, I don't want to have someone come into my game and tell me that my game of choice should be this way or that way, just because their game of choice does things this way or that way. I have chosen [insert game here] precicely because I like the way it does things, or at least, I like the direction it's going, if it isn't quite as good as I want it to be.

WoW is GREAT for what it is. I don't think any of us are really saying that WoW is a bad game (at least most of us). We are just saying we would rather play something else, and if you are going to come pee in our pool then we don't want you to swim there.

You WoW fanboys can be just as closed minded and elite about your game as we (we meaning pretty much anyone who choses a game OTHER than WoW) are about our games. You don't understand why some people like to feel the pain of death, just as we don't understand why you like to be able to click the "win" button :)

One game does not fit all, as much as WoW players may think... They sure have the benefit of numbers.

Yesterday i was in a internet cafe drink some coffee and saw someone playing wow, he was in some battle ground fighting underwater agains allys, i could not temper myself when i saw that and start laughing out laud.

It was rediculous how they fight under water, a fire mage shooting fireballsunderwater how stupid, but whole fight was stupid this was not pvp, this is just plain crazy butten bashing with autolock and unrealistic fights of physics, its maybe fun for wow players but i could not play such a stupid pvp system.

But thats there fun they accept that way of playing im ok with that, nobody force me to play wow, there is a big mmo community who wanne have simple gameplay and a small group who want a more challenging

game experience.

played:ac,ac2,L2,eq2 and wow.

Hardcore pvp/pve/rpg.
Checked also: Fury,LastChaos,Shaiya and Perfect world, but there below avarage mmo's

I have not read this thread but it is because WoW is not very indepth, you don't choose your side, you cant lose only gain, you dont have to group, no player owned structures or reason to be in a guild other than to group with, which you dont have to do. it is just easy and obviously aimed a less hardcore crowd.

" you cant lose only gain" - Why is this bad? In fact, I think it is brilliant to take stress of losses away from players. Real life has enough stress. I don't want the same level of stress in my entertainment.

Well I normaly  use poker as an example for this. Yes you can play on most sites with free chips. However paying for it, putting in some money (even if it is just 1 dollar) just changes the whole game and brings it to an whole other level. It only make it stressing if you are a bad loser. Big difference though is the fact that you actualy lose something with poker, in an online game you only lose some virtual items.

Anyhow back on the topic. "Go back to WoW" is not really an insult is it? They say it becouse they find the WoW community largely immature. However I find comment like "go back to WoW" more immature then the community in WoW.

Once the sizzling top dollar steaks are served to your table, you hear one of the kids saying "Ewww dad, YUCK!". The childs father politely tells his child to behave and tells him in a sarcastic tone that not every dinner can be of McDonalds quality. This remark gets a good chuckle from most observers at the table, including the waiter.

I've played World of Warcraft. And with all the childish bickering and whining especially when playing with almost any group I was ever invited into.. I never heard "Go back to UO" or "Go back to "EQ".

However, when I've played "Eve" recently, Asheron's Call, and when I played Dark Age of Camelot a couple years back, certainly one of the biggest insults you can throw at somebody is to say something along the lines of "Go back to WoW, noob" And players that get told those words almost always get pissed and take it very personally, instantly trying to prove their worthiness to play whatever game it is that they are logged into.

We certainly all know how popular World of Warcraft is, recently proclaiming 10 million active customers. But even with it's popularity, is it really such a low in overall quality in the general mmo community? Is WoW really "McDonalds compared to a fine quality steakhouse"? I mean everyone knows how many billions of burgers McDonalds has proclaimed to have sold (much like all the millions of customers Blizzard is so proud to make public).

Quality very rarely equals Quantity. I personally think that World of Warcraft is a very high quality game, however it is just way too simple and has way too little actual challenge - atleast for me. However, it would be hard to say that some mmo that was more challenging but had a million bugs was "higher quality".

World of Warcraft is a high quality game. But regardless of it's numbers, it sure seems to be the lowest of low and the laughing stock and where noobish players are condemned to so often inside more challenging and sophisticated mmos today. In that regard, World of Warcraft sure doesn't get a lot of respect. If you doubt me, fire up a free trial of Asherons Call and publicly ask on the general chat channel what players think about World of Warcraft. You'll be almost certain to draw laughter, insults and total abuse from anyone who even thinks you deserve an answer.

Is it an over abused insult? It is funny? Is it a great insult? Is it ignorant?

Oh yes.. if you want to flame me, that's perfectly fine. But as soon as you are done, "Go back to WoW" eh? {winks}

love your comparision. McDonalds -> WoW

Btw If someone likes a game, if you like a game (wow in this case) just play it and dont take in account what other says. I dont like wow, but I dont like other mmo also, perhaps wow is a game with great popularity where there is no big customization, and cause this, it can get a bit "simple". So some people, like me, found the game boring, but, perhaps, all this wow players will found the games I like boring... its all about tastes.

About the "insult". Think this is the "marketing" problem, wow, as I remember, is the first mmo I saw announced at Tv, lot of young boys is the first they discovered, and lot of people is the only one or the first one mmorpg. Sure that there are some smart players, sure, but there is also lot of boys that saw the game, or that fathers bought the game cause they dont know what to give for christmas, its a easy game and, with the normal excitment of their age, give wow this "mcdonalds" fame.

The "go back to WoW" communities are pretty grim, games that attract those sort of teenage jerks are to be avoided.

Exclusive elitest knobs. They think they are better than everyone else and seek ways to demonstate this.

I enjoy role play games because of the social diversity I find online that I would not otherwise be exposed to in my daily life. These kinds of communities however, I can afford to miss.

This thread is not dead yet?

There is nothing wrong with playing any game really.

I'm sure that Blizzard is very happy with the kind of advertisement excibited in this thread. They don't even have to pay for it. Insults just make even the casual people more fanatical about their game and the negative publicity attracts even more curious people.

I'm sure the marketing people at Blizzard are happy with the good work all the haters are doing for them.

Seems to me this is the MMO equivalent of the "Hitler" card.  If you have to pull it from the deck, you've lost the debate.

I was thinking the same thing.  Lord of the Rings hit the big screen and was beautiful.  Just because it goes mainstream does not make it less of an art.  It just means more people appreciate it.  It sounds elitist to treat a game/music creator this way as the creators WANT it to be popular because it's not just the cha-ching, it's about sharing with the rest of the world.  To hide a treasure for only yourself is greedy, as I see it.  If a person has to go to a game or music to find uniqueness...guess what, there's nothing unique about that.  Sorry, all that is is riding a personal fad favorite until the next one comes along.  Uniqueness it the combination of not only what you like at the moment, but who you are, how you feel, the company you keep, and the beliefs you hold dear.
