Could be true. Used to be you had to at least run the quests on the three modes. But, even if it is true, I suspect it will be very hard to find a group that is not ninja-running the instances. Really need to get a good RP guild, I think, for DDO to even approach what it is supposed to be. |

Originally posted by Shoal Surprisingly, this has actually improved a lot S. Partially because with some of the most recent hype there are legitimately a LOT of new players (not just alts) running around the harbor. Still a problem, no doubt, but I can say that if you say you're new...MOST of the community will slow down and let you enjoy the experience and the quest. I do agree though, a good RP guild can help a lot. Additionally, if you really want a completely different experience I recommend rolling at least one character to play in a perma-death guild...it's truly crazy LOL! |

A few questions i do have are:
1. AC -what does this mean, from the limited reading i have done so far it means Armor rating, if so why the acroynm "AC"? 2. I hear talk of pure classes, does this mean that i can make a fighter that can cast spells, or does it mean that if i roll a Fighter i just invest in say CON and STR? In other words what is a multiclass character. 3. Can i increase the size of the hotbar as the icons are really small?
Thanks,

Originally posted by VultureSkull 1. AC is armor class. The higher the number, the harder it is for an enemy to hit you. Everytime an enemy swings a 20 sided die is rolled. That enemy will also have a bonus (like you) on his "to hit", let's say he's got a +10 to hit and rolls a 13. His "To Hit" roll would be a 23. Now, that 23 has to be a higher number than your armor class for him to hit you. Same works in reverse, when you swing at a monster. Armor class can be garnered from a variety of types of protections and sources. You can have a "dodge" bonus to AC, gained from the feat dodge, and from a few rare items in game. Dodge is unique, in that it's the only AC type that stacks (so a +1 dodge item would actually stack with a +2 dodge item). Other types are Armor (your actual armor you are wearing), dexterity bonus (from the stat, this is also limited by the type of armor you wear), deflection items, paladin aura bonuses, etc. 2. In DDO you can multiclass, up to 3 different classes in one character. SO you could be a 4th level fighter, 3rd level wizard, and 7th level rogue all together in one 14th level character and have the abilities of each of those classes at those levels combined. Multiclassing is pretty complex, though and recommended for after you really start getting a handle on the classes and restrictions first by playing a "pure" class. 3. I honestly have no idea LOL! |

LOL...btw VS I realize that Armor Class explanation is probably still somewhat confusing after re-reading it, it's a pretty complicated system. Just wait till you look at how complicated it is to calculate "to hit" rolls and all the potential bonuses and minuses that go into it though |

Thanks Vincenz for your detailed responses. Interesting about the multiclasses, I will definitely be starting with a pure class as with feats, skills, spells etc there is a lot to keep me busy!!

Originally posted by VultureSkull Oh, no doubt. Multiclassing can be VERY complex. Not only are you opening up the unique abilities/skills of X class that you multiclass into...but also their enhancement lines, feats, spell lists, etc. Some multiclasses though are definitely amazing characters, Battle Bards for instance are becoming quite popular (fighter/bard mix that can self buff, heal, play a few songs, cast a few crowd control spells, still have high armor class and attack bonuses). |

Our doubts are traitors and make us lose the good we oft might win, by fearing to attempt |
I'm going to be trying DDO out again tonight. I played for 2 months at release. (no longer have the game or that machine that it was on). I will gladly repurchase the game if I like it now. I have my wife DL'ing the game at home for me while I am working, but she said nothing about any high-res option when she did it. She went to the trial page, submitted my email address and said it took her right to a download and gave mailed me a key. I want to see this game in all it's glory... do I need to dowload from somewhere else to get a high res client? Right now I am deeply enjoying PotBS, but I am a table top D&D'er at heart and had great hope for this game, and I really like Turbine as well, so I want to check it out again before I write it off and miss the boat. I usually run 2 mmorpg subscription, so this would be my other game if it works out. So where do I get the high res client from? Thansk! :) |
