I would like to see something on the lines of Klingon Academy converted into a startrek mmo myself. Does anybody remember that game?

seriously how can you have a crew all work to fly the same ship and still make it fun ..

It is possible.  SWG has crew-served ships, on a smaller scale.  Not saying it would be easy, just possible.

The problem is the whole "group" issue you bring up.  What if you can't pull your crew together or your guild disbands and you're stuck with an expensive but unusable starship?  And of course, the inevitable whining from those single-players who just don't get "MMO" and insist they should be able to solo anything and everything.

Without crew-served ships, this game will be EvE with a Star Trek skin.  i like EvE, but it is not Star Trek.

This is just one major reason why I think a ST MMO is undoable.

The asnwer is simple.  Either you find another player or hire an NPC, just like you do in GuildWars.

"What is Age of Conan? ... Correct, for $50, Ed!"
