The Pub at MMORPG.COM  » "Darkfall".. The biggest, most hyped vaporware that ever existed. Atleast "Mourning" and "Dark & Light" actually released.

Duke Nukem Forever released a new trailer last month after 11 years in development. I don't expect anything more from Darkfall.

Actually it is.

Just because you haven't been on the moon, doesnt mean it doesnt exist.

Worst analogy ever ! DF is vaporware because it won't ever be released or at least not in our lifetime. As the old saying goes..."In the end money talks and cow poop walks." DF will only stop being vaporware once it releases end of story.

Youtubes only videos of darkfall, are trash, of a trash game(hate to burst your bubble but ya).  The videos don't prove theres a game, they prove they were able to get the game running with models for at least 20 seconds, whos to say theres more to it?  Heck they could have faked the videos with some animation program and it's not even real footage(they say it is, but what proof do they give?)

And i'm sorry, but do the fanbois actually believe "We don't have time to take gameplay videos or screenshots or make announcements? We want the game to be perfect and that's what we are focusing on."

If you actually believe that.... then hey i have a island to sell ya, and no i can't show you any real information about the island, nor can i allow you to go see the island.

Heck the devs can barely type 6 paragraphs of information about the game without them sighing and acting like it's a lot of work.

It's not.

If you give me 1 hour, honestly a hour is all you need, i could make a "dev log" with screenshots, about vanguard and post it.  It's not hard.  The games been in development for so many years, that taking a few hours of their time every few weeks shouldn't be that much of a ordeal.  They've had what? since 2001 to provide proof that theres a real game?  With real features?  That really functions?  Heck do they TEST the game?  Do they TEST the features?  Well why don't they download fraps, and then test the game while making a video, and then post it. it doesn't even have to be fancy and edited(like aoc does, but at least their game is out there)

And you fanboys can go "your afraid of a pvp game"  Heck it doesnt matter if its pvp, it doesn't matter if its a sim game, it doesn't matter if its a zombie game, it doesn't matter if its wow 2.  Any game in this situation would receive the same criticism

Darkfall is just like any other game during its development phase, anyone who's labeling it "vaporware" is just throwing the term around like a promiscuous ragdoll.

The only hype surrounding it is from the people who've realized the brilliance of its design theory. Likewise, there will be skeptics and naysayers who simply don't agree, because they either have difference tastes, haven't truly read deep into the game or just want to bash it for the sake of going against the grain.

And just to be clear, it won't ever reach the same level of success as most major MMORPGs, as it's not catering to the mainstream audience. It will, however, blow everything in its niche out of the water.

remember folks the general public has been extremely wrong before.   for instance WoW was supposed to be a 100K subscriber game, that's even what Blizzard thought.

Yes, we have been wrong before. Most of us who were here remember all too well all this familiar hype for a game. We remember how "Mourning" promised unique PvP and all these awesome ideas for a PvP mmo. We also remember everyone drooling about Dark and Light a year, two years, and three years before it finally launched. Dark and Light was supposed to be the cure all mmo that every PvP lover would flock to.

So, yes "we" have seen this same BS before. Most of us know better then to fall for "Darkfall" which at this point is ALL HYPE and NOTHING TANGIBLE at all.

Stop following the crowd and maybe you wouldn't get so anally-sore when a new game lets you down (which I doubt you've even played Mourning or D&L and are just going by what the most vocal people think)

Also, it's hypocritical for you to think Darkfall shouldn't be anticipated, while assuming AoC is going to be the "real deal" when it's "all hype" and nothing "tangible" at all.

Lets face it, MMOs today are turning into single player console games with a chat box included.

Id love it if Darkfall came out and made good on all their promises for pvp and what not. However Im more of a realist than an optimist, so Im not going to hold my breath for this game.

Let's see.  People have actually tried AoC before.  I can go buy old magazines from various people that track games, and see hand-on thoughts about it.  Hell I can even try to track down a thread of someone using a peeing emote in AoC for you.  You could youtube AoC and find video's of someone playing AoC using a Xbox360 controller while explaining game mechanics.  That's tangible.

Darkfall on other hand.  Have you ever met anyone creditable that's played it?  Seen a creditable hand-on preview?  Seen a movie of someone playing it?  If you can please feel free to drop those links right here in this thread.  Because otherwise, yes Darkfall is vaporeware, as there is no tangible proof that the game actually even exist.

Hell even Duke Nukem Forever had a very real video and magazine coverage, that actually proved it was being worked on.  Yet you think people should just go off some developers word, that so far has produced nothing to date, to offer up as proof.   If you were an investor you would be the easiest mark for a con man.  Gullible in the most extreme sense of the word.

Age of Conan started development in 2003.  Its being released in two months, and has been in beta for a while.  Oh yeah, and it took a really long time to develop.

Darkfall started a full two years earlier, and so far MAY be entering beta sometime this year.  That's what, 2009 release date at the earliest?

Frankly, at this stage of development, Darkfall has something to prove - that it exists, that there are NOT major problems in its development, that something is working.

Age of Conan, if beta was not currently running, if it was not slated to release in two months, would also need to prove that.  Thing is, they're done, and we're not even sure if Darkfall developers are still getting started.

Of course you have. However, it's still "vaporware" according to the anti-Darkfall alliance's definition of the term. AoC is produced by funcom, a pretty well known company, whereas DF is produced by Aventurine SA, an independent company from Greece. It doesn't take that much brainpower to understand that AoC has higher production values and will be covered extensively by the media in order to promote the game.

AoC is all flash and very little subtance. DF is a relatively underground game with one goal in mind, absolute player-driven dynamics.

I have actually. Valiant effort to prove me wrong, though. You see, I've actually taken the time to read up on the game, instead of looking at the frontpage of their website for a few seconds. Since you asked for it, I'll even give you a few links:

If I were an investor, I wouldn't invest that much money or money at all into Darkfall because it doesn't appeal to the mass market. Though, as a gamer, I would invest my time into Darkfall because it meets the criteria of an MMO I desire.

I can not wait for an official word if it is canceld of for the realease.....we wont have these kind of thread anymore with poeple in it trying to convince the other side they are right. We only have to sit tight though and read the "I told you so", "LOL ROLLED", "Who is the idiot now", etc threads for like 6 months.

Let's see.. I haven't even played Mourning or Dark and Light eh? Gotcha. If you need, I can find my REVIEWS of BOTH of these games in the history of this websites threads. I actually had TWO reviews of "Mourning" posted in these threads, the second and most accurate review getting I believe it was a 36%. (April or May of 2004) My review of Dark and Light got an "Unplayable" as my final score in like early 2005. I actually paid $19.95 for Mourning and got the Early Settlers of Ganneth trial of D&L.

...So don't be so sure that I am just speaking out my ass. If this fails to convince you, then simply look at the date I have joined these forums (12/31/2003).

Let me go on to tell you how ridiculous you sound calling me hypocritical for calling Darkfall a future bust and letdown and seeing Age of Conan as possibly the "real deal". Age of Conan is WAY more tangible then Darkfall. To prove this, I ask you to call up BestBuy or EBGames and ask them for a release date on both games. See what answers you get. This website and many other websites have article after article of "hands on" previews for Age of Conan. You simply won't find such previews for Darkfall. Age of Conan actually has a real beta that players are actually playing. Even though people have been yapping about an "almost here" beta for Darkfall for the past five years, it still isn't here, nor is there any concrete promises of such a beta.

Look, like I said... I used to be hyped up for Darkfall as well. It sounds great and promises what all the people left out when Trammel was introduced to Ultima Online have been dreaming about for years. But I seriously gave up several years ago. Having experiences like "Mourning" and "Dark and Light" and being excited for those two games as well has taught me a lot about these kinda games that promise soooo much but deliver so little.

I do hope that Darkfall actually releases sometime when it is actually and fully "complete" I hope that you make me eat my words and that Darkfall is a truly epic mmo. I really do. ...But I know better deep inside.

Take care and for your own sake, don't put too much hope into Darkfall. Atleast then if it does release and it is a great game then you will be pleasantly surprised. But having hope for this game for years and years will almost certainly do nothing but disappoint you in the end. This is the best advice I can give you based on a LOT of first hand experience. Take my advice or continue to call me names and call me a liar, your choice pal.

At least nothing, Mourning was and forever will be the biggest attempted scam in MMO gaming history.

The "Product" they created was merely there to convince Fanboi's that there was something in addition to all the BS promised Lore and Features so that enough buzz would be created through said Fanboi's and the company's viral Game News Media campaign so that investors could be attracted and money would be thrown their way, after which they would have buggered off to spend it on other shady projects, namely Porn and Mortgage scams.

Darkfall isn't the only game I follow, so it wouldn't be that much of a disappointment if it never released. If you read my post just prior to this one you'll understand why I follow it. I'm just not into mass market MMOs, I'm into specific ones tailored to my needs, and Darkfall just happens to meet all of the criteria.

There's enough information and evidence to suggest that Darkfall won't be just another sub-par gaming experience. I do my research, unlike the typical blind follower who can't see past the surface of a videogame.
