The Age of Conan official site has been updated with their regular Friday Feature, bring tidings of Beta and tests of the Capture the Flag PvP mini-game, improvements to the official site including an RSS feed and a Community Survey to harness Conan fan's "almost unnatural love for taking surveys."

The most commonly asked question is "What's going on with beta?!"

So, with that in mind, we'll have some beta news, some website news, and some other news.

As to the beta, there was a huge new patch (several gigabytes) just a few days ago that added tons of new content and improvements to the game. We'd say more, but that would break our NDA and we'd be thrown out of our own beta. ;)

To celebrate, we've done two things.

First, we sent out a wave of several thousand beta invites earlier this week. This takes care of the first round of forum veterans that had not yet received their beta invite, as well as other upstanding (or lucky) individuals. These join the thousands already careening around Hyboria killing Picts, exploring dark dungeons, and sending us lots of bug reports.

Awww, I didn't get a beta invite.  That's alright . . . Tabula Rasa is kinda fun for now, but I am still interested in trying AoC soon.

lol i just found that you have to be subscribed to their newsletter to actually be considered for the beta.

Why have an application in the first then?

Would've been nice if they pointed that out a bit more clearly months ago.

yah because a "new patch (several gigabytes) just a few days ago that added tons of new content and improvements to the game" should only take up a couple hundred megs, right?

It sounds worrisome that they are adding content and/or fixing bugs?  Sure, it could mean the game is a TOTAL mess and the huge patch was an effort to throw something at the game to improve it.  But usually huge patches in beta only improve things.   What if the article said "we havent patched the game in months", that wouldn't sound good....

WORRISOME??? how so? typical Flummoxed post. No elaboration. And if he replies, I hope he takes into consideration other games that are out that had patches during beta 4 months before launch and ones closer to launch. (Couple eg's LotRO's High Res Patch, the big one just before launch too. Perfect World just have a 1gig patch going into Open Beta.) Atleast they didnt shut the beta down for 2/3 months.

If it was so worrisome why have they invited all those people?

The game is not vaporware and it is being released. Wouldn't you say that when it does it should be the best it can be? Therefore even  if it is pushed back, (never say never) its only good for the end product. The last delays barely, 'BARELY' had people leaving the community. So I can't think why you think it would be worrisome....

Come on man, stop being an obvious fan boy.  You needn't write paragraphs of text just because one person says something negative about your game.  I'm sure it'll be fine without his support so relax.

If they're going by register date, first wave of forum veterans must mean #8786 and before :(

Hope they're going to invite just a few more soon! ;)

You mean 9 lines of text to put a good point across, on a 'fan site' for 'fans' of mmorpg's is wrong? Its not about being negative its about not being right to start with.

The patch was exceptionally large. At the time it was normal to expect the game being patched up with a file approximately the size of 150-200 MB. AoC however had a several gigs patch in it. So my guess it aint just to fix compatibility, errors, extra feature or tweaks. I think the recently new patch is created because, they are revamped the core gameplay in Age of Conan. It reminds me a lot like Anarchy Online in the good ol´ days. But when Anarchy Online was released, it caused an uproar. Unsatisfied customers flooded the game's official Internet message board with angry complaints about severe problems, such as insecure registration, CD key errors, and in-game bugs and stability issues. I just hope that Funcom dont make the same mistake twice.

Several Gigs is good news.  More features to test!   Maybe they will invite more people to the beta (if the thousands are not enough for this big of a patch) and I can get in.  Plus it did mention content and several gigs of data is well worth downloading to get more content.  AoC is about 50/50 drawing me away from WAR.  ARG!!! Why do 2 games that I am interested in have to be released so close together!

Instanced pvp ftl,

ah.. i see...

...a warcraft fan proclaiming that AoC is going to fail in other posts.

*edit* ...and it's a "minigame" it's not how pvp is utilized in the entire game. buh.
