CCP has released a white paper outlining the latest incarnation of the Council of Stellar Management, which went through some changes recently on account of feedback from Fanfest.  The most notable change is that the CSM is no longer being billed as democracy of EVE's virtual society.  Does this change represent a loss of idealism or is it simply a change in terminology to more accurately represent CCP's vision?  You'll have to read more to find out.

Ever since our CEO, Hilmar Pétursson, announced the re-emergence of the Council of Stellar Management (CSM) last spring we have been working feverishly at trying to make it bigger and better than the earlier version. When it was implemented last time players could volunteer for the CSM and they were then handpicked by us.

What we wish to do is to take this to a new level and let you the players elect representatives to the CSM. The CSM will then act as an official conduit for your comments and requests, as a community, enhancing greatly your ability to express your concerns and prioritize the matters you believe are most important at the time. The white paper presented here is by no means a finished paper, changes and updates will be made to it when more feedback gets in. We have already changed our ideas on some key fronts based on the feedback we got at Fanfest this year, the biggest change being that this is no longer considered an implementation of ‘Democracy’, as that word has so many and different meanings to different people that it would be the cause of a lot of misunderstandings.

You can download the white paper here in .pdf format. We look forward to reading your feedback, ideas and thoughts on the new CSM and we will be as active as possible in the discussion thread.

Read more here.

The Goons, BoB and every other uber corp is jockying to get there man or woman as the case may be in this. What we are going to end up with is a bunch of buricratic bullshit  that only serves a corp or two while joe player gets screwed.  I guess Hilmar wanted it to be just like in the real world.

Then perhaps the ordanry folk had better vote someone else in Hmmmm, that is kind of the point isant  it the community voting in the members. So if you dont get into it you only have yourself to blame for not getting enough votes.

And besides this Council wont really ahve much real power so it doesant really matter as they can only give 'Sujestions' from the community.

You may want to check out what's going on with some of the uber-corp forums before you blather. The smaller corps will basically be throwing their votes away because they will not be able to get behind a single person (Kinda like why Ralph Nader can only act as a spoiler for the dems) meanwhile Bob and the Goons will basically be negotiating what to "suggest” also the Council will also be steering the ethics committee.....and we will basically have, okay you don't squeal on us for these hacks and we won't squeal on you for those hacks.
This whole thing was brought about because CCP doesn’t want to be embarrassed again, having the Star Chamber in your hip pocket is a means to a end nothing more.

Well to be fair you did start it by calling me a Troll nes pas? I wasn't Trolling, I am just voicing some very disturbing trends that I am seeing. And you’re right I am going to point out that it isn't a democracy. CCP is playing with it's credibility here.... "better than nothing" is going to cause them to lose subs. The EvE community by and large are smarter than your average bears and they can smell bullshit a couple light years away.

Isn't this similar to SWG's Senator program? I can see how this  will  be used and abused rather quickly. They need folks that are truly neutral to the corps and hiring from within the game itself is not going to accomplish that in my opinion.

Best of luck to the EVE team with this, but I do not see a rosey future in store for this program.
