I don't like how they answered the question about platforms. Sounds like they would like to make the game multi-platformed which would kind of suck.
If they are going to rely on the community like they said, then the community would revolt lol. |

I think it is good to know how they are developing the game, some great questions were asked and there were some intriguing responses were given.... I wish I didn't have to school shortly before the chat, but still thank you too whoever asked the question, answered the questions and the person or people who posted the chat transcript. |

looks quite bland, can't see anything new being brought to the table here. Probably aiming to cash in with another WoW clone....

Honestly, it sounds to me like their high-concept pitch could be LOTRO + TR = SGW. The way they talked about instancing and their overarching story focused on making each player "feel like a hero" sounds very LOTRO to me. Now, that's not necessarily a bad thing, because I liked and played LOTRO... for about 6 months. It was very refreshing in that time period, but unfortunately the lack of locations eventually caused me to grow bored. If they can pull off good core gameplay and lots of good locations, I (being not a Stargate fan at all) would at least give it a shot. -------- "Give a man a fire, and he is warm for a day. There's a forum over at the main Stargate Worlds website which is constantly humming with rumour and speculation, with a few pointed questions being asked of the devs. With that as back-story to this chat I found some of the answers to be particularly significant - some of the bigger community based questions that have been floating around the Stargate Worlds forums have now been answered. I can understand how the chat might seem a little "bland" without knowing the angst that a few of the fans are feeling though! For my part I was extremely pleased with their answers and with the gems of information that they gave out to us. I was expecting them to travel a much more boring, "well trodden path" with it. Shameless self-promotion here, but I'll be trying to sum up the backstory and this chat in my "Gate Buzz" podcast this week if you're interested in hearing. |

I am really surprised that living quarters will not be available. I wonder what the depth will be for this game. Are there vehicles? Is there space combat? On the sci fi genre I see a lot of current swg gamers and swg refugees looking at this. I hope it does well for the sci fi mmo genre but I would rather they don't rush it. Fans can be not so forgiving.
Also I think it was way cool that they did this chat with mmorpg- it raises awareness for the sci fi genre in the mmorpog communities. |

I think the reason most games don't launch with housing is becasue it makes a great addition to a first expansion or update which, in turn, brings in more players after the initial release buzz. If I were making (or capable of making) an MMO thats how I would do it. from what ive read on the wiki for this game, space combat will not be in the initial release(dunno bout vehicles though). apparently there will be at least one expansion, focused on Atlantis, and possibly another one for space exploration/combat. IMO this is one of those 'its about time' kinda games, as it could of been made quite a while ago. i just hope they dont screw it up.... |

What game ISN'T level based? Even games without levels are 'level based'. You just don't see the 'level' listed. |

Originally posted by eric_w66 I agree. The level based system has been slammed so long...yet, the most popular games have some type of level system Character levels Gaming levels (like dungeons) Area levels... Skill level No matter how you slice it...EVERY game deals with a level somehow to show progress. As for SGW, my question is level usually is associated with power...but, how many of the SG based teams gained "power"...and as well, which of the "powers" were not delved into more...And what I mean is ...you get stronger, faster, more protection...etc, as you gain levels. How could this be represented with a "Human's" based game....no elves, dwarves, or aliens (note, I did not read EVERY single note...so I am unsure if we can play Tokra, Jaffa, etc.) As for myself...and my wife, we are SG geeks...of all Sci-Fi shows...only SG is part of our DVD collections, and we watch em all (including Atlantis...which rocks this season), we own the movie...etc, etc. So, we as many others do, have a special interest in this game going well...(please don't be like LOTRO...a good game, but just does not capture the spirit of Tolkien for me...) Here is hoping...and ps: I liked what I read Cheers!

well as for the whole 'levels' discussion, it kinda makes sense that you get stronger. from what ive read and seen this game will take you through a storyline, through which will make you stronger with experience. the same thing happened with the SGC throughout the series, the slower got stronger. most likely the same thing will happen, itll just be a bit more exagurated. oh and the confirmed playable races atm moment are human(evil and good), jaffa(evil and good), the asgard(good), and the goauld(evil). |

well the asgard probably wont have different genders as they are all clones anyway, oh and they also dont wear clothes, so no armor. from what ive read the whole customization of the asgard has to do with drones that they control......as for weapons i dont really know what their gonna do lol. |
