"Infinite Replayability – Dynamically generated levels, chance events and massive quantities of randomly created items makes for infinite replayability -- no two experiences will ever be the same and every game will be it’s own unique event."
A lot of mixed info on the site, whether or not it is a MMORPG. But since there is talk of beta access and membership fees, it probably is MMORPG in some form or other. AC (retired); EQ (retired); DAoC (retired); Horizons (retired); EQII (retired); CoH (retired); AC II (tested); Lineage II (beta); Neocron (tested); Saga of Ryzom (beta); SWG (retired)... |

Thanks. Glad you guys chose to do that right thing. HGL is definately an MMO. At least as much as some of the other games listed on this site. |

I don''t have to know how to make a better game, I only need to know where the "CANCEL" button is! |

Single-player game with multiplayer option. I guess since they are charging a subscription rate for their Premium service, it must be an MMORPG , right? The game had promise until it became clear that it would draw all the Blizzwits who are "bored with WOW". If post-apocalyptic 24/7 Barrens chat is your can of Red Bull, then you'll feel right at home. Diablo had a similar style (yes i know they worked on it), and it also had an online aspect...hell, D2 is basically all online now. Single player is nice, but multiplayer is where its at. If there's a lot of people online, its massively multiplayer...and there's an rpg aspect to it. That pretty much fulfills the requirements to be an MMORPG. |

Originally posted by NihilxSaw your original post, then saw your edit...hehe In all aspects, I am afraid it is an MMORPG...until proven otherwise (Even will include content updates, housing later on...needless to say, it is more of an MMO than some other games out right now...) I would put this in a league with Guild Wars, and may just be as good if not better Cheers! |

Ive been waiting on this for a while now, the game that is since a friend linked up information about it on my Clan site. Until that point i hadnt heard of Hellgate: London in any media format... i have to admit from reading as much as i can about it, ive been pleasantly surprised and hopefully will continue to be so
And yes i would say it classified as a MMORPG since it meets the criteria denoted by the abbreviation. 'Massively Multiplayer' and 'Online Roleplaying Game' it is and there will be ongoing online content that will evolve what we are gifted with at release
Anyway, i think this will be a silent hit, creeping under most peoples radars. If they can pull off the single player campaign and evolving online mmorpg features to boot then its gunna be a bobby dazzler |

Meh, this game is as much of an MMO as guild wars is. I guess the only criterias for MMOs now are for them to be online and have many players on at once, where as all the other mechanics that traditional MMOs have are ignored completely.

Originally posted by Rein How many threads are needed to debate if its a MMO or not. Honestly, in the present day for online gaming, for someone to debate if this specific game is a MMO or not is silly. There are other games on this site that fit almost identical characteristics of online play and the argument of if they are MMO's or not has been going on forever it seems. The only debate that makes sense is a general topic to discuss what makes a game a MMO. To post in this thread is just another rehash of Guild Wars debating. Same story, another game. The game made it on this web site, if obviously meets the requirements that this particular site has for a game to be considered a MMO. If you do not agree with them, that is more of a general topic discussion as this game is not unique on this site for its online model.

My problem with calling Hellgate:London and Guildwars MMOs is that you dillute the meaning of MMO. Sure they are online and sure you can meet alot of people. For me the keyword is the first M: MASSIVE, the only places in these games where there are MASSIVE with players are a few places, you are not realy playing the game there. You are hooking up with other players and do your preparations for the acutal play, but once you start your are not going to see other players until you get back to those places. That for me does not meet the definition of a Massive Multiplayer Online game. They are great MULTIPLAYER games but they are not MASSIVE multiplayer games.
With that said, i´m going to pick up Hellgate but it sadens me to see MMORPG.com losing its way, if they want to follow this path they should change their name becouse if popular demands is all that it takes to define it as a MMO they are going to be in dire trouble soon. |

If adding Hellgate London to the list gets more people to visit the site regularly....then that's the business justification for adding it to the list.... and not because people chose to split hairs over what really makes an MMORPG game. Yes....it is about the money..... and there's nothing wrong with that. |

In so many words...someone said Diablo2...nope...only 8 people in an area Guild Wars...in one city...there can be "thousands"...that is quite massive Sorry...no one really set a precedent of what an MMO is, so if the game is Massive, is Multiplayer and is Online....sounds like MMO to me Cheers! |

Sure, they want to make money and i have no problem with that. BUT when they clain that is is a site for Massive Multiplayer Online games then that it what is should be. Hey, if they just want to thow in games that will generate traffic why not add Counter-strike, Unreal Tournament or quake or something, they are online, they are multiplayer, they would generate lots of trafik, sure they lack that little area where everyone meets up on, but aparently the MASSIVE part isn´t that big of a deal for them. |
