Planetside 2 would be great. Ive fought some epic battles in PS... usually over some stinkin bridge! But that didnt matter at the time hehe... just awsome repelling an armada of tanks trying to cross it, seeing artillery bombarding the other side while a flock of reavers and libs charging em, tons of infantry and MAXes rushing the bridge followed by our tanks too, then they come at us again..."They shall not pass!", just awsome. Would it be that hard to do PS2? I mean the foundation is all there, races, weapons, story.... theres no need to write 2000 quests because there are no boring a** quests in PS... just pure action. New engine, scrap that funky cone of fire, add some new air and sea bases, more weapons and vehicles and sprinkle with love. Serve with cold beer and good endgame, bam, insta successimo! ...One can only dream. "Don't touch that please, your primitive intellect wouldn't understand alloys and compositions and things with... molecular structures." |

Gotta vote no on this, unless it was created for consoles, where it might actually be a bigger success than the first one.

From SOE, not a chance. Other games are coming out that use some of Planetside's ideas: MAG (PS3), Welkin, Global Agenda, and The Agency. Planetside was WAY ahead of its time. |

I would recommend that you take a look at Force of Arms. They are doing some pretty cool stuff. Eventhough its a Mech game the infantry and air side is a huge part of the game as well. |

An updated form of PlanetSide could be hugely succesful to be honest. Heat, pressure and time. The three things that make a diamond, also make a waffle. |

Originally posted by Woopin I think there are a lot of good points made on this board, but yours is probably the strongest. Sadly the pop drop was entirely due to poor choices on the part of the devs. And their blindness to it being their own fault. But, hind sight is 20/20. The interesting thing that I can say about this game is best described here: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2008/09/05/planetside-the-1/ It documents the interesting phenominon that I think is common with most players of PS. More than any other war-game, instilled a true sense of comradery to the level I dare say exists with real-life soldiers (please forgive me for relating the seriousness of real battle to that of a video game) but none the less people recall their time on PS like that of veteran. They have War Stories. Perhaps they dont share them with their grand kids, but at very least they can instantly recall in there own minds huge battles and particular moments and scenarios. Everyone reading this that played PS for any significant period of time during its strong years, can recall one epic situation or another. Here maybe this map will jog some memories: http://section8server.com/maps/cyssor.jpg I played from the early release for 2 years. Climbed in rank and ultimately took over an outfit of 30 serious players. We slickly operated as a quick capture specializaiton platoon. Running multiple syncronized low elevation GAL drops to seal the Tower and CC captures. Ah the memories... good stuff. I re-subbed 2 years ago and enjoyed it for a month or two, and am about to do it again. The fact of the matter is, there is no other game like it. And coming off of 2 years of the WoW gold/rep rat-race... I'll be happy to return to the simpler full throttle tactical/strategic and yes, frequent zerg of PS. For this game to be built again though, SOE will have to sell it to someone else. They don't have the sense to look back and see that this game's only failure was their own lack of experience in the genre. And honestly who could blame them for that, after all PS invented the genre. But not learning from the error and seeing th current market's eagerness for something new... that they ought to be ashamed of. Sell it...let someone else do it. Titus, CO Shining Force, Markov

I agree with what was said above,
The game was amazing but also ahead of it's time though. With the computer systems we have now adays we can run PS much better than we used to... I too remember the game very well i ended up being Hacker/Gal Pilot. It was a great game and definatly one i would love to see remade. Though i doubt that it will ever be remade, my only hope is that some company comes close to remaking the greatness of PS. So far their has been nothing close to it. |

Didn't some company make a new Planetside? I think it was called a different name, but people referred to it as Planetside 2. |

No, there isn't anything out there that is a true MMOFPS yet to rivial PS. Playing Call of Duty: World of War at the moment, 24v24 fights on tiny maps soon gets boring.
Few wannabes coming out but nothing to match, we need Planetside 2, and not restricted to console, FPS on consoles suck. |

Yes, you are referring to Huxley. Huxley is PlanetSide 2. I can't believe there are still so many people that don't know about Huxley or the fact that Huxley is PlanetSide2 isnt socially accepted. Seriously pay attention. I just played the Closed beta for Huxley recently. Yes, it is very win. It uses the Unreal 3 engine and it's not a shitty console gamer's FPS. |

Huxley doesn't have hundreds versus hundreds, it has arena's where players have UT or Quake Arena style battles Hate to break your bubble, but large scale warfare has been promised, and implemented. Starting at 64 players it is said to be expanded to 250 players. This is the main faction vs. faction server based persistant warfare, like PlanetSide. While there are small battles at 16 players called "Virtual Battles" these are not the main draw. ____________________________ "I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but I know World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones." - Albert Einstein |

Huxley, right now, is just guild wars with guns and really boring UT style combat. I think the devs said that they're even only going to launch with 64 players maximum. You can't even compare it to Planetside right now.

did a quick look at their FAQ...
So it seems it will be capped at 60 each side... still double of most fpses like bf42 but that's nothing compared to planetside's limits (before they downgraded their servers).

Welkin4591 is the real successor to Planetside. It's known among the PS community as Planetside 2 (and if I'm being honest it looks close to exactly like planetside in every way possible). |

Gah, looks like i was right then, how disappointing.
Those videos are misleading. They are from the beta where only small scale PVP is enabled and used. How planetside works is that most of the game will take place in Large scale PVP zones where it will be 60vs60, but as someone else said they will increase it to 200 players later making it 100vs100. Howver, if you so choose you can create a "Server" and participate in arena matches where the gameplay mirrors UT exactly. They even included the double damage as well. So, don't hold back just yet. I have a "Friend" in the closed beta and so far the game is better than "He" expected. |

Sorry it took me so long to respond. Yes, I did look at it and yes it looks really cool, buuuuut it's on the PS3 and the MMO and MMOFPS demographic seems to be mainly on the PC. I personally don't own any consoles and I probably never will so I'll probably never get to play it. =\ |
