How would you feel if there would be a Anarchy Online 2?

Would it be something you would look forward too?

With upgraded engine, like Cryo2 engine, and lots of other new things.

Would Anarchy Online 2 be intressting?

Yes
No (if so post why)

I said yes. Just because AO has been my favorite MMORPG ever since I played it a long time ago.

The problem I'm seeing with sequals to online games, is they've tended to disapoint some of the original game fans, due to taking the game too far into another direction. Not that the sequals themselves are horrible games, but they don't seem to take the old world charm and add a spark to it, they try to write a different game and throw in similar lore. For instance, A part of me has always been disapointed with EQ2 due to how it originaly had only two cities (big ones, but still only two). Part of the appeal of old EQ was it's vast different cultures within their own part of the world. That's just one example of something that can vastly change a game's ideology

If they managed to keep the games magic, with using a new client for new graphics (while not completely betraying the art of the original game)along with further development of current game feature customizations, and some additional features that do not betray the original concept, then I would be happy with a sequal.

Apsolutely

AO is even to this moment , one of the smartest MMO's available.

And only amount of innovations it brought to MMO genre is uncomparable to any other.

It has its flaws though.

One of them is clunky engine and graphic.

If AO would be redone. Pushed a bit more to direction of Old SWG.

It would be a dream come true for many of us

Yes the grafix are kinda out of it by now and I also agree its a really good game. Its a winning choice though, a good game that is why

a AO 2 would be a good one I think.

AO2 would be great, but without the SL crap, bring back the war between the Clans and Omni Tek =)

Everyone not playing wow is a wow hater! :P

Very true , I hope they make a AO2 and also checks up what the fans say about it , like we do here.

2 cities would be best they can expand in a later expantion maybe, or not at all. Playablity in AO2 was nice. And I agree on the EQ2 also.

AO has one of the best character development system of any MMOG. I love it when I tried out the free client. The only gripe I have is the vast empty world that does not have any good mobs to kill to level on. Which forces ppl to get quests from terminals to do, and those can get repetitive after some time....

ao2 wpould be nice yes. but don't hold your breath. funcom has alot invested in aoc and i doubt they would even consider it at this time. although they are planning on bringing the graphics engine up to a more gpu driven one rather than a cpu driven one.
not quite ao2 but should be a nice addition.

FunCom is in the process of updating the game engine right now. Graphics will be on par with game coming out today.

Unfortunately no

The engine will be updated. It will run much faster , but the graphic will remain the same.

Except for some fancy rendering effects -

But no new models or textures or animations

And as for huge world populated by useless mob

I agree ... The mob should get serious lift

As for missions

AO is the grandfather of instances / and random missions. City of heroes ripped this idea clean off.

But problem in both games - that although random they all happen on handfull of maps

Rise number of maps to 200-300 , make them more random even ...

And you will never ever notice you are doing the same random generated missions

They are updating from DirectX 7 to DirectX 9.  Nothing more.

World of Whatcraft?

Considering how much I still enjoy the original game, and also that they seem to be taking it in the exact direction I was hoping for with updating the graphics and such, I really don't think we need an AO2 for awhile. At some point in the future maybe, and I would be interested it in, but I don't think AO is quite ready to die yet.

FunCom is still working on Age of Conan and then after that they will be working on another MMO called "The Secret World". So you won't be seeing Anarchy Online II for quite some time.

I don't think anyone is expecting the game to look like Crysis. But even simple implementation of what have become basic graphical effects and standards would be something to behold. I'd love to get some improved lighting effects, add in AA and AF to the game, and so on.

I enjoyed Anarchy Online when it was first released. I actually cleared my study schedule for two days so that I could devote some time to THE (not A, but THE) new MMORPG that season. That is an indication of how far things have changed. It was the first, newest neatest thing to come out since the EverQuest and Asheron’s Call releases. People were drooling over the changes that would be made in the few years between. (If I remember correctly I spent those first two days watching a slide show of a ridiculously dark city while trying to get through the worst lag of any game I have ever seen… but it did get better eventually)

AO was new. It had ideas and concepts that were not seen in EQ or AC (yes I know I am ignoring UO, but that one was really not in the same evolutionary strata as EQ & AC) Anarchy Online was complex. The game was not completely intuitive. It had pitfalls in the game, character creation, choices, equipment, skills ad infinitum. You could make mistakes and suffer for them.

Anyhow, the idea of an Anarchy Online Two seems like a great idea… at first. However. Things have changed.

The gaming population has changed. For better or for worse is a personal opinion, but regardless, the fact is that the gaming population is different than it was almost a decade ago. I have my own theory behind this and it is fairly simple.

Those of us that started in EQ and AC and eventually AO… well, we didn’t actually start there did we? Most of us actually started in Eye of the Beholder, Black Crypt, Might and Magic, Daggerfall, and a dozen games that I can’t remember their names. We had notebooks in our laps jotting down clues; we had graph paper laying across the ottoman, spread across the library floor and out into the hallway. We mapped the dungeons. We were prepared for complex games with long lists of rules and huge pitfalls and potential errors in our choices.

That is simply not true with many of today’s gamers. For better or for worse, they grew up with cartridge games spoon feeding them the choices in little bite sized pieces so they didn’t choke. Granted, they had speed and action and a multitude of buttons to punch on their handheld joysticks… but no cartridge game had any depth and not a single one had the ability to have complexity of characters. Don’t blame the games; it simply isn’t possible, even today, to have cartridge games that are anything more than elaborate slot car tracks. Complex character choices and shooters don’t mix.

So what we have today are games that are fast paced and shallow. The spoon feeding was required so that today’s gamer can jump into a fast game quickly and not suffer ill effects from poor choices made early in their character’s career.

Long story longer – What was great about Anarchy Online was its complexity and that would be a tough sell to the people that have game controller calluses and dents in their hands.

"The reality of the poor in America isn't the difference between The Haves and The Have Nots, it is the difference between The Haves and The Have Lots."

I'll try not to derail this thread by saying it, but personally I didnt think that AO was really that complex.  I still loved it though.  It had some of the best features and best design scopes I ever seen in an mmo.  Just like others said:   random mission generators, augmentations, the grid system and I loved Shadowlands. I haven't been back to AO recently, but looking at the AO forums Funcom have rightly tried to implement more and more quests into Shadowlands. Which is a good thing as it helps to remove the whole "grind" feel.

I recall that AoC's engine is an evolution of AO's engine.  With that said, I'd love to see them use the AoC engine for AO2 :)

Someone said something about ""The Secret World"?  Hmmm....could that be referring to a Rubi-ka 2?

Hehehehe
