Electronic Arts has announced today that they will be the distributor of Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning in Europe.

Geneva, Switzerland, August 22, 2007 - Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) today announced the signature of a distribution deal with GOA for the highly anticipated massively-multiplayer online (MMO) game, Warhammer(R) Online: Age of Reckoning(TM) (WAR). Effective immediately, EA will be the exclusive distributor of the boxed product to stores across Europe.

GOA, the France Telecom-owned publisher of online games, previously held distribution rights for WAR and will continue to act as the exclusive publisher and operator of the game in Europe. Since 2001, GOA has published and operated Dark Age of Camelot(TM) in Europe.

"WAR is one of the most anticipated MMOs in the world with a particularly strong following in Europe," said Mark Jacobs, VP and General Manager, EA Mythic. "GOA has been an outstanding partner with Dark Age of Camelot and by pairing them with EA's top sales and distributions teams in Europe, we now have an unbeatable combination."

Ghislaine LeRhun, Senior Vice President of GOA, said "EA's unrivaled distribution reach in Europe will help make WAR the success we anticipate. We couldn't have wished for a better partnership".

Based on Games Workshop's epic and longstanding tabletop fantasy war game, Warhammer Online, Age of Reckoning features revolutionary Realm vs. Real(TM) (RvR) gameplay that immerses players in a world of perpetual conflict.

Scheduled for launch on the PC in the first quarter of 2008, the game will be available in retail outlets and via download through EA's digital distribution channel.

Nice that it's available for download, and I hope that'll be from day 1. While it might piss off some retailers, cutting into their share, there are simply a lot of people who don't live close enough to a store to buy the game easily, or they can't order online (or can't afford to).

1. Xfire numbers are indicative but highly inaccurate for determining an MMOG's subscriber numbers.
2. Xfire numbers are perfectly viable for identifying trends in an MMOG's subscriber numbers, keeping in mind any current or recent "use Xfire!" campaigns.

Yes, the direct dowanload, is basically the only choice for me. Unless the box happens to include something really interesting, aside from the box art, like say a limited edition miniature.

Has successfully forgiven SOE/LA for the NGE.

So are we going to see a host of replies saying, "EA are touching this? Then I refuse to have anything else to do with this vaporware!"?

If you do they're pretty ignorant replies.  Considering EA has the best distribution tactics in the world, this is nothing but a good thing.

Personally , i wished they would drop the GOA .

In games like this i dislike the EU / NA / pacific server versions / servers. (I don't mind servers in different places just restricted acess).

Ps if you live in Europe do yourself a favor and get yourself a copy of a NA version as those are taken care of BY MYTHIC. Unless they are not going the route of DAOC , but everything points to the fact that they are.  But beyond that if its avaible for Digital download then you can get whatever version you want easly.

I do not think EA have another digital distribution channel :( And now that GOA signed the distribution contract, i doubt they can make the on line sell by themselves.

I got BF2142 through EA Link and it worked like a charm.

Easy interface and good download speeds.

QFT, if Goa are hosting the servers in WAR. You can bet your sister they're going to make a cock up of it, just like they did with daoc.
